At Liberty Buick-GMC Trucks we believe in our local educators. Actually, we think they deserve more credit for all the hard work they do day-in and day-out. This is why we offer an Educator Discount for all educators! That’s right, show us your teacher ID and we will provide some of the most impressive discounts around.
Did you know the average teacher salary in North Carolina is roughly $51,000? This is close to $10,000 below the national average, according to a recent report coming out of Raleigh.* The painful realization that our state ranks 37th in the nation in terms of teacher pay is something we at Liberty are not proud of, but we have found a way to help our educators out. By alleviating the high-cost of cars, we hope to enable our teachers to better focus on what’s important in life: family, friends, and career. And it just so happens that the job of a teacher is one that affects us all.
Not only do we offer discounts on some of our favorite, most reliable vehicles for our local educators, we can also walk through the process of picking out the best vehicle for you. Your weekends are your time to relax, and that is something we do not want to take away from you. Instead of spending endless hours on the lot, we want to make your shopping experience as easy as possible. We know it can be a bit stressful and intimidating walking around, looking for that perfect car. And we know you don’t need any added stress, on top of the grading and planning and meetings, which is why we want to make your experience at Liberty Buick-GMC Trucks a positive one.
Before we get into the specifics of what we are currently offing our esteemed educators, here are a few tips to help you find your next vehicle:
- Don’t think about price. At least not at first. Having that number sign over your head the entire time you are searching for your next car can keep you from getting what you really want and need. For now, keep the price tag out of it. What do you really want in a car? Maybe it’s time to go for the bells and whistles you usually opt-out of. Regardless of what you may need, we have plenty to offer on our lot.
- Take it for a spin. Once you find the vehicle—or vehicles—you are interested in, stop in to Liberty and go for a test drive. Walk around and look at it. Kick the tires a few times—whatever you want. What matters most to us is that you drive away in your perfect car.
- Enhance your discount. An added feature to the GM Educator Discount is you can use it in conjunction with other eligible lease offers, which means you get even more off that car of your dreams!
Now that you have a plan, here are some of our current discounts for educators:

“Sign, sign, everywhere a sign*”! Signs are helpful, they tell you how fast you can drive, when to stop, and where to eat. But some signs, namely car warning lights, can get your heart running faster than your motor!
Nothing can complicate your day like something going wrong with your vehicle, but having a little bit of knowledge about the meaning of the warning lights can ease the tension and help you respond quickly.
As vehicles have become higher-tech, and since fewer people work on their own cars these days, it’s easy to be concerned that you may not be doing the right thing when a warning light comes on. We suggest you review your vehicle’s owner manual and learn which lights you might see on your dashboard regularly (such as the low-temperature light that goes off as the car warms up), and those that can appear when something is wrong (such as the check engine warning light). Some vehicles are equipped with additional safety items, cruise control, or variable transmissions that have lights you may not have been familiar with in past vehicles.
Here are the basic warning lights all vehicle operators should be aware of, as well as, the action to take when you see them (courtesy www.driverseducationusa.com):
![]() |
Temperature Warning Light: This indicates that your car’s engine is overheated and may need more coolant. If this light turns on while you are driving, pull over as soon as possible and turn off your engine. You may need to add coolant to your vehicle’s coolant reservoir; however, never open your vehicle’s coolant reservoir cap while the engine is still hot. You may need to wait for a while until the engine is cool, then you can open your coolant reservoir cap and add coolant. |
|
![]() |
Oil Pressure Warning Light: This indicates that your oil level may be too low. Check your oil dipstick and add oil if necessary. If your warning light is still lit after adding oil, visit a mechanic. |
|
![]() |
Check Engine Warning Light: This indicates that there is a serious problem with the engine that requires your immediate attention. You may need to take your vehicle to a mechanic right away. If the engine light comes on in conjunction with other warning lights, such as the temperature warning light or oil pressure warning light, pull over and turn off the engine and follow the instructions above for the issues relating to temperature and oil pressure. |
|
![]() |
Tire Pressure Warning Light: This indicates that one or more of your vehicle’s tires have low pressure. On occasions, this happens when one or more of your tires are getting close to going flat due to possible damage, or because you may have driven over a nail or sharp object. If this light comes on while you are driving on the highway at a higher speed, grab your steering wheel firmly, so you can control your car better in case of a tire blowout, start slowing down, and pull the vehicle over as soon as you can. Then take your vehicle to a tire center for an inspection. |
|
![]() |
Brake System Warning Light: This indicates that there is a problem with the brake system. Also, you may have left your parking brake on, or you may have low brake fluid. If you do not have your parking brake on, your vehicle’s brake fluid is okay, and your brake system Warning Light still comes on, you need to stop driving the vehicle and take it to a mechanic for repairing the brake system. |
|
![]() |
ABS Warning Light: This indicates that your vehicle’s anti-lock brake system (ABS) has been deactivated due to an issue with the ABS. However, the standard brake system is working. ABS is important for situations when you need to stop the vehicle suddenly, or you need to brake on a wet or slippery road. Thus, it is recommended to fix the ABS issue as soon as possible. If both the Brake System Warning Light and ABS Warning Light come on while you’re driving, pull over immediately – there is a possibility that your brake system is not working. Take your vehicle to a mechanic. |
|
![]() |
Electronic Stability Control Light: This indicates that the vehicle’s traction control is activated to prevent skidding; this is caused by slippery driving conditions. |
|
![]() |
Transmission Temperature Warning Light: This indicates that the transmission’s current temperature is higher than normal. Pullover and let the engine cool, and then check the coolant level and transmission fluid level; if both are at the correct level and your transmission temperature warning light is still on, take your vehicle to a mechanic. |
|
![]() |
Battery Warning Light: This indicates that your vehicle’s charging system is not working correctly, and the engine is not getting enough power. This problem may be caused by your battery’s condition or its terminal connections, or your vehicle’s alternator or alternator belt. Don’t turn off the engine because it may not turn on again and take the vehicle to the nearest part store or mechanic. Part stores usually have a tester that can test the battery and alternator for you at no charge. |
|
![]() |
Airbag Warning Light: This indicates that your vehicle’s airbag system is not working properly. Take your vehicle to a mechanic or a dealer to fix this safety issue. |
|
![]() |
Door Ajar Warning Light: This indicates that there is a door or the trunk door is open. Make sure that all of the doors and hood and trunk are closed before starting to drive your vehicle. Also, if you leave your door open and the vehicle’s light is on, it can drain your battery. |
|
![]() |
Fog Lamp: This indicates that the vehicle’s front lamp is on. |
If you have encountered a warning light or a mechanical emergency that requires you immediately stop using the vehicle, follow these steps from AAA:
1) Note your vehicle’s location. If you encounter a problem while driving, make sure you are aware of your surroundings and general location. Know where you are in relation to a major exit or cross street. Look for well-lighted areas. Notice landmarks such as service stations, restaurants, shopping centers, and business complexes. If you are on an interstate highway, note the mile marker, last exit number, or nearest emergency call box or rest area. You may need this information when summoning assistance.
2) Assess your vehicle’s operating problem. While driving, be aware of and know how to respond to warning signs, such as steering problems or steam or smoke coming from under the hood. Also, listen for any unusual noises. If it’s a flat tire, the first rule is not to panic. Signal, slow down gradually, and carefully pull onto the shoulder of the road, avoiding any sudden maneuvers. If you run out of gas or your engine stops, switch on emergency/safety flashers, carefully steer your vehicle out of traffic, and let its momentum get you off the road to a safe place. Avoid applying the brakes until necessary.
3) Pull off the road. On most roads, you should exit onto the far right shoulder, as far off the road as possible while remaining on level ground. If you are driving on an interstate or multiple-lane highway with medians, you may consider the left shoulder, again pulling as far away from traffic as possible.
If you get out of your vehicle, proceed carefully and watch for oncoming traffic, especially at night or in bad weather, when visibility is limited. Never stand behind or directly in front of your vehicle. Other roadway users may have trouble seeing you, and you could be struck by another vehicle. What if you CANNOT pull off the road? If your vehicle loses power and is inoperable, switch on safety/emergency flashers. Do not risk personal injury by attempting to push it to a safe location. If you cannot get your vehicle to a location away from traffic, or if you are uncertain about your safety and think your vehicle may get struck from behind, do not stay in your vehicle.
4) Alert other motorists. Make sure your vehicle is visible to other motorists. Remember they may be traveling at a high rate of speed and must be able to see your vehicle from a great distance to stop or move to another lane.
Turn on the emergency flashers, especially at night or during inclement weather. Raise your vehicle’s hood. If you have a brightly colored handkerchief or scarf, tie it to the antenna or door handle, or hold it in place by closing it in a window. Place flares or warning triangles to direct oncoming traffic away from your vehicle. If you are experiencing a fuel leak or smell fuel fumes, do not ignite flares or use anything with a flame. Extinguish any lit cigarettes. As a rule of thumb, place the first flare or triangle 10 feet directly behind the side of the vehicle closest to the road. Place the second 100 feet directly behind the vehicle, lining it up with the middle of the bumper. Position the third device behind the vehicle’s right side — 100 feet if on an undivided highway, 300 feet if on a divided highway. When doing so, always watch for oncoming traffic.
5) Communicate your situation. Once you and any passengers are in a safe location, you can notify others of your vehicle break-down. Make note of surroundings and landmarks, buildings or road signs. If you have a cell phone, immediately use it to call for help. Make the call from inside your vehicle if you are safely out of traffic. Otherwise, do so at a safe distance from the vehicle and roadside.
6) Remain with your vehicle. Safety experts agree that under most circumstances if you are able to pull away from traffic, it is safest to remain in your vehicle until a law enforcement officer or road service provider arrives. Always be mindful of your surroundings. At night, carry a flashlight. In some circumstances, when there is no other alternative, you may need to rely on the help of a friendly motorist or passerby. Should this be your only alternative to get help, ask for identification including name, phone number, and address before accepting assistance. Write this information down and leave it with another person, or in the vehicle, explaining where you are going, when you expect to return, and what you hope to accomplish. If you choose to exit the vehicle, do so safely and well away from oncoming traffic and your vehicle. If possible, you and any passengers should exit through the side of the vehicle facing away from the road. In most cases, the passenger side of the vehicle allows for greater distance from oncoming traffic. If you determine help is within walking distance, think about whether it’s safe to leave your vehicle or passengers for a short period of time. Assess traffic conditions and ensure that your contemplated route is safe for pedestrians. If you choose to stay inside your vehicle, keep the windows almost closed and the doors locked. It’s very dangerous to lower your windows or open your vehicle doors to strangers. If a stranger does stop to offer help, ask the person to call for emergency road service. If you are threatened or harassed while waiting in your car, honk the horn repeatedly and flash the lights to attract attention. Don’t leave the engine on for extended periods to heat or cool the vehicle. You could put yourself and any passengers at risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Additional tips:
- Keep your phone with you and charged at all times. Your next step is calling for help. You may have AAA or towing coverage through your vehicle’s warranty. Keep these phone numbers handy, either in the glove compartment or programmed into your phone, but ideally both.
- Keep emergency supplies in your car. A blanket, flashlights, flares, first aid kit, bottled water, and non-perishable snacks will be helpful if the weather is challenging or you are in a remote location.
- Have someone to call if you need a ride. Keep phone numbers with you and programmed in your phone for friends/relatives and taxi companies who service your area. Uber, Lyft and other car-share companies have convenient apps to summon a ride.
- Call your mechanic or dealership to advise the vehicle is coming and explain the situation as best you can. If possible, take a photo of the dashboard showing the warning lights. This photo is something you can refer to in later conversations.
Advanced safety brings new warning lights to know:
One example of a vehicle with advanced technology is the 2019 Buick Enclave. The Owner’s Guide is full of information and within it you will find symbols, along with text describing the operation of information relating to a specific component, control, message, gauge, or indicator.
Some warning lights are to advise of a potential mechanical issue, while others are there to highlight potential driving safety issues. As Buick and other manufacturers continue to work to
provide you with increasingly safe vehicles, more warning lights will appear on your dashboard alerting you to lane changes, forward collision alert, pedestrians ahead, and rear-cross traffic alerts among others. Refer to your manual and local these symbols and be comfortable with their meanings.
Forward Collision Alert Warning Light
If available, the Forward Collision Alert detects that a front-end collision situation is imminent while following a detected vehicle. The system alerts you to a potential crash. It also alerts you if you’re following a detected vehicle much too closely. (www.buick.com)

Heard the rumors yet? If not, let us tell you: Buick is contemplating launching a crossover, and its would-be name is the Enspire. Obviously, within a name like Enspire, they hope to inspire owners and would-be owners of crossovers. And let’s be honest: we could use the inspiration. With every carmaker in the crossover market, everything is looking rather drab, rather typical. We need something new, something different. So, hopefully Buick can inspire us with a totally new approach to the crossover. Let’s look at what a Buick crossover could mean.

On December 11th, Buick trademarked the word “Enspire,” which they had trademarked back in 2015 also. So the recent renewed trademarking tells us one simple thing: GM must be serious about bringing a new vehicle to market.
The first rumor about a possible Buick Crossover is that it could be a battery-electric vehicle. Back in April 2018 in China, at the Beijing Autoshow, Buick showed a concept vehicle—a potential prototype for the Enspire—a battery-electric model. Though the company did not unveil how that system works, they said it was built with “eMotion electric propulsion technology” and could travel up to 370 miles on a single charge. The all-electric powertrain sported 550 horsepower, which can go from zero to 60 in just four seconds.
If the concept vehicle unveiled will translate into concrete features, then having such a powerful all-electric vehicle would be a very bold innovation. And if GM can pull it off, then what could that mean for future models of its numerous name brands? What would a Jeep or a Ram or a GM full SUV look like with such technologies installed? If they can make such technology both affordable and reliable, then having a fleet of vehicles that are completely free from the gasoline pump would be a true gamechanger in the industry.
More importantly, it opens up Buick’s SUV line of vehicles: added the Enspire, an all-electric vehicle, to the Encore, Envision and Enclave will mean that Buick isn’t just adding yet another crossover, but that it’s also joining the market of hybrids and electric vehicles. And if they can take it by storm, it could nudge the whole auto industry forward. All we need to do is remember the near $4/gallon prices of a decade ago, and the rage of the SUV in the same moment, to remember how painful it was to own an SUV during a time of pricey oil. We may not have high oil or gasoline prices, but we have become more conscientiousness of fuel costs. So, for Buick potentially to bring in a crossover SUV and open up options, well, the future will thank them.
The value of such concept vehicles, like the one Buick shown in China, is that it is conceptual, which means it represents a set of ideas and technologies that could trickle down into most of GM’s brands in the coming years. Concept vehicles help us see what’s possible—so what GM is doing could really open up new ways of building vehicles in America. Think of it: with a battery pack that supports inductive charging capability and which can refurbish 80 percent of its charge in just 40 minutes, it means that the Enspire would not limit ordinary driving patterns at all, but work within how we drive. Who wouldn’t pick an electric vehicle that cuts away the hold of the gas station and liberates its driver to go off the gasoline grid. That’d be innovative, for sure.
Where does a new crossover like the Enspire leave Buick’s Envision? That’s hard to say, but it’s entirely possible that the Enspire would replace the Envision. It’s also possible that the trade wars with China and the newly instated tariffs will put pressure on Buick, which builds the Envision in China and imports it, to move production to the USA.
And where would the Enspire put its competitors? Audi would certainly be a contender, but if Buick can deliver an affordable vehicle packed with all the major, trendsetting—even groundbreaking—technologies, then Audi wouldn’t be the presumptive competitor it first seems to be. People want cost savings, which an all-electric vehicle assures, and they want the technology to be cost affordable—within reach of the middle class. Buick is positioned to deliver, if they can make this work.
Like you, we at Liberty are excited to see what Buick may bring to market. We will keep you posted.
You’re rolling down Providence Road, heading toward South Park Mall and the perennial Charlottean problem strikes you: traffic. It’s as typical to Charlotte as all the Range Rovers, Mercedes, BMWs, and pricey sports cars. You’re pulling up behind a long line, some 6 deep already, of cars waiting to turn from Providence onto Fairview, and you get to thinking: Am I driving the safest car? What features of my car help to ward off the evils of driving in Charlotte? When I am facing the driving mess that is the morning and evening rush hours in the Queen City, am I certain I have the safest and most dependable ride there is?
You pull up to be number two in line, in the turn lane, because the light switched from green back to red. You sit there listening to top 40 tunes and your eyes rove over the cars crossing through the intersection. You glance down at your odometer and see 96, 312 miles, and you think, “wow, it might be time to try something new!” So, what would you buy, what features would you want, and why would you choose what you would? And what about where you live, do the traffic patterns of your particular neighborhood matter to your day-to-day errands?
If you’re a typical soccer mom or a football dad, then your driving will be mostly pick-ups and drop-offs, shopping, and running errands within a few miles’ radius of your house. What features will help you with that sort of driving load? But if you’re a working woman, or if you’re a corporate-ladder-climbing man on his hustle, then your commute might be more of a haul than a few short miles to the nearest Chick-fil-A. What do you need to make your commute as smooth and as pleasant as possible?
Charlotte’s Most Dangerous Intersections
Thinking about the challenges or difficulties of driving in a growing city, with its growing traffic problems, is a good place to start when deciding what you most want, and need, in a vehicle. Some of Charlotte’s worst intersections might surprise you, as well as give you pause to reconsider what’s more important when purchasing a car: the bells and whistles alone, or those plus some solid, significant safety features. For example, the Charlotte Observer, in a November 2018 article, lists East 12th Street and North Davidson Street as its number 2 worst intersection. This means, running up to NoDa for some tunes and craft beer might be more dangerous than you first thought!
Another is that six-lane intersection in the Oakdale North area (Lawning, Miranda, Oakdale, and Sunset) which stands as number 4 in their list (they’ve planned a roundabout, to reconfigure traffic flow there). What about up near the University area, where North Tryon, East Sugar Creek, and West Sugar Creek, all intersect? Did you know that 64,000 vehicles pass through each day, making it one of the busiest intersections on the Observer’s list? Are you prepared to face that mass of traffic each day? Do you have the safest vehicle for your driving needs and habits?
What about squeezing into the daily lines at any Chick-fil-A, then doing battle with the line as it wraps around the building and you wrap around with it, in pursuit of that Spicy Chicken Sandwich you craved, how certain are you that your car could take a rear-end from a driving-while-texting or a driver lost in his blaring music? Does your vehicle come equipped with alert systems and rear cameras, which could notify you of the impending hit as you fumble for your money at the window, or a system that might record the incident for insurance reporting purposes? These are things to consider.
Safety First
Safety features are the most prevalent focus among car manufacturers who are industry leaders. Did you know, according to the Association for Safe International Road Travel, an organization that tracks data on wrecks, that 37,000 people die in road crashes in the US, and that an additional 2.35 million people are annually injured or disabled by a wreck? It’s also important to note that crashes cost $230.6 billion dollars each year, the share of each citizen being $820 per person. What safety features does your vehicle have to minimize your chances of being counted as one of those statistics?
Some of the leading safety features in many new vehicles today include back-up cameras, helping drivers see curbs, pedestrians, and other vehicles in the space behind them, or anything else in their path. That’s a brilliant feature in preventing some very dangerous possibilities, such as running over scooters left in the driveway or hitting someone in NoDa on a rent-a-bike. And do you know about the latest in crash-avoidance systems, also called pre-crash systems, and what these systems can do to keep you safer? Such a system uses lasers, radar, and cameras strategically placed around the vehicle’s body, along with GPS sensors, to build a panoramic view around your vehicle as you drive it. It funnels all of that information into alerts and notifications, to warn the driver. And if you cannot avoid a wreck, the system steps in to affect the steering and braking, so that it works for you when you’re in split-second decision-making scenarios.
And how about lane detection systems, which can “read” your positioning on the road and inform you when you begin to veer out of the lane, or are drifting. It can also warn you if a driver is in your blind spot when you attempt to change lanes on 485 to get around that slow-moving snail-of-a-driver, in the center lane. How does it convey its alerts or warning? The system will use visual, audio, or vibration (like the haptic on your Apple watch) to tell you that you may be in a dangerous position when it comes to staying in the lane. If you try to change lanes, because you ignored or missed the warning of something in your blind spot on 77 North, the system will work to keep you in the lane, as well as, keep you centered within your lane. That’s not just a great feature for your own vehicle, but it also keeps you safe from the cars around you when those cars are equipped with this feature. Senseless wrecks from poor lane changes are totally avoidable with the lane detection system.
The complementary system to lane detection is blind-spot warning systems, which also use audio, visual, or vibration feedback to warn you if someone is in your blind spot as you cruise up North Tryon Street, heading for your craft beer in NoDa. And how about the virtues of Bluetooth technology, allowing for hands-free calling as well as being integral to many of the systems discussed above. It links to your dashboard or infotainment screen, so you can accept or place calls, or even be notified of a text message, which it can read to you, and then you can respond by audibly dictating a reply text, without ever moving your hands from the wheel or eyes off the road. Think about not just your safety, but your teen driver: such Bluetooth technology can be a great way to cut down on texting and driving wrecks, which are so unnecessary.
(Also, did you know that Bluetooth, when paired with Google Maps or Apple Maps, can record your parking location for you? Forgetting where you parked, whether in on-street parking or parking lots scenarios, can be a thing of the past when you turn on this feature in your smartphone app.)
And here’s another bonus to driving a vehicle with numerous safety features: lowered car insurance premiums. Many car insurance companies incentivize you to own the safest cars possible by building in credits to your premiums for every safety feature your vehicle possesses. Who doesn’t want to save on car insurance, as well as, have the safest driving experiences as they navigate the mess of Charlotte’s traffic?
Safest Vehicles
What sort of vehicles have most, if not all, of these features? The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) gives 4 of 5 stars to the 2018 GMC Yukon, noting its following safety features, which secured its 4 stars:
- Forward Collision Warning

- Lane Departure Warning
- Crash Imminent Braking
- Dynamic Brake Support.
The GMC Yukon has had no recalls, which further cements its place as a leader among the safest vehicles in America.
Consider the 2018 Buick Enclave SUV with FWD, which gained 5 out of 5 stars from NHTSA, in its overall safety rating:
- Forward Collision Warning
- Lane Departure Warning
- Crash Imminent Braking
- Dynamic Brake Support.
Again, no recalls, which tells you how solid and dependable the reputation of Buick, like GMC is. It’s built with American families in mind. It’s built with safety in mind. It’s built for the Charlottean soccer mom and her 3 kids, or for the family vacation to the Carolina coastline, taken during dad’s two weeks off in summer when everyone else is also hitting the roads.
US News and World Report, when assessing the safety of the 2019 GMC Terrain, looked to the NHTSA in its reporting. The Terrain gained an overall rating of 5 out of 5 stars, with the specifics of Frontal Crash and Side Crash carrying 5 stars, and Rollover getting 4 stars. For a compact SUV, the 2019 GMC Terrain has a great standing in the ratings for its class. The SUV has numerous airbags, 4-wheel ABS brakes, Electronic Stability Control, Traction Control, and Daytime Running Lights. These safety features help to rank it in the top third of its class of Compact SUVs, and its affordability puts safety within reach. It’s a great choice for parents looking to put their child behind the wheel of his or her first car.
Similar in ratings and price point to the Terrain is the 2019 Buick Encore, also a Compact SUV, which adds Integrated Turn Signal Mirrors to its list of standard safety features. It, too, has an overall safety rating from the NHTSA of 5 out of 5 stars, making it another leading option in outfitting your daughter with a dependable and safe compact SUV for her commute from south Charlotte to UNC-Charlotte.
Sure, that Fiat you saw on Woodlawn was cute, but isn’t a compact SUV like the Encore or the Terrain a better choice? And though the allure of a BMW is always going to be there, you cannot get your family, and all its gear where it needs to go, in it. You need a Yukon, with the same safety features and systems as that BMW, so that you can haul gear and kids and Chick-fil-A around on Saturdays, to matches and meets and practices.
Liberty Buick GMC wants to put you in the safest, most reliable vehicles available today. We are unique in that we are large enough to have the inventory our customers need but small enough to get to know our customers personally. We believe in doing what is right for our team and our customers while aiming to be Charlotte’s best Buick/GMC dealership with our state-of-the-art, family-friendly facilities and incredible team of trained professionals.
The end of the year is an important time for savvy car buyers. Typically, this is when dealers are trying to get rid of the year’s stock to make way for the new models, often leading to deals that reduce car prices by hundreds, if not thousands. It is also a good time to buy because most dealerships are trying to set prices low enough to maximize the chances of meeting their annual sales goals.
Don’t Wait to Buy that New Vehicle
You have done your research and know which vehicle best suits your needs. You have spent time exploring prices and what you can best afford. Now imagine yourself walking into the car lot and eyeing that vehicle you have been wanting. The test drive is over and it is the end of the day. You may be tired and not in the mood to deal with a salesman, but you came with the intent of getting a good deal and you, the savvy consumer, are determined to make that happen.
Buying at the end of the year is propitious on a much larger scale because it is typically when dealers are most anxious to close a sale in order to meet or exceed the year’s quota. Go vehicle shopping the last two weeks in December and you will find yourself negotiating over a sale that must be made. These two weeks are the absolute best in timing, as new models will be arriving soon and the ones remaining must be sold to make room.
As with any significant purchase, research, patience, and mediation skills are necessary. And in a perfect vehicle-buying situation, you the customer, as well as the salesperson, are both benefiting from the process. Waiting until the end of the workday is good, holding out until the end of the month is better, but if you can withstand the temptation to buy until those last two weeks in December, you will be able to give yourself quite a nice post holiday gift and for the best possible price.
What We Have to Offer
Though this time of year is typically best for purchasing, there are no guarantees that you will save a lot of money. What mostly determines the amount of sale you will find is the make of the car itself. The plain and simple truth is this: some car manufacturers have better end-of-year deals than others, and it is your job — as the smart buyer — to find that make and model best for you and your pocket book. (Luckily, we have already done that work for you.)
Buick and GMC win for having some of the best deals in pricing this December. Not only are Buick and GMC doing a bang up job at re-introducing its line-up to the general public with innovative designs and superior performance, but they also know the importance of offering a great deal. For instance, this December you can finance varying models for as low as zero percent and get large cash-back rebates (be sure to check out other hidden dealer rebates too).

Liberty Buick GMC Has Options!
Most people finance, a smaller percentage lease, and even fewer pay cash; but this is not indicative of which is best, as each option has its own set of advantages. Deciding on your method of purchase is highly dependent upon details such as how long you wish to own the vehicle, your current credit score, and how much cash you have in the bank. Regardless of your financial situation, each option should be scrutinized before making such a significant purchase.
- Paying cash: A positive to this method is a lack of worry over charges or finance fees; also, when using cash, you hold the title (rather than the bank), making for less hassle if you choose to sell the vehicle later down the road. And, first and foremost, you do not have to make monthly payments! A negative aspect to paying cash is that most often people don’t have such a large sum stowed away, and if they do, it may need to be set aside for another weighty buy — a house, college, nest egg…the list is never ending.
- Leasing: This option usually allows for a new model annually, and the vehicle is typically always under warranty, eliminating worry over engine or other performance problems. The monthly payments for leasing are often less than financing. Additionally, there are highly beneficial tax cuts when the leased vehicle is used primarily for business purposes. When leasing, you do not have to worry about making a down payment — assuming your credit is good enough. Negative aspects to leasing include a requirement of more than simply having basic insurance: often dealerships will require a specific amount or type of insurance, resulting in a higher monthly fee. Also, although a leased vehicle is covered with warranty, it is not covered for scratches and dents, which will have to be paid out of pocket.
- Financing: The most commonly used method of purchase for Americans, this option allows you to use the bank’s money, freeing up your disposable income and the time it can take to save enough money to pay cash. Credit scores determine the type of financing available (the higher the score, the lower the interest rate), and there are usually nice warranty packages out there for financers. The down side to financing? Your monthly payments are usually a little higher than when leasing, and there is usually a hefty down payment required.
How to Shop For a Great Deal
There are a few things to watch out for when car shopping this holiday season. In particular, if you are in need of an SUV and have been waiting for sale season to shop, here are just a few key tips to help you along in your shopping:
- In order to get the very best prices on SUVs this season, there are a few crucial steps that need to be taken. The first thing we suggest is if you have a trade-in vehicle, get it appraised first. A quick stop-in at CarMax, or even a detailed online search, can provide you with the exact amount your trade-in is worth. You can even stop in to our service department to see if it might be beneficial to have a little work done on your trade-in first. Sometimes this can bring up the value of the car. What sort of things will your service technician look for? Anything that is not performing properly. He or she will also look for things that could go wrong in the near future. Intricate pieces like engine belts, hoses, and plugs. These all need replacing every so often, and if you wait until they completely malfunction you could be left stranded. And even worse, they could cause damage to other parts of the engine. Don’t wait until something breaks. Let a professional look over your vehicle so that you can keep it running for years to come. This then becomes one less thing you have to worry about when shopping. Now you know the price to expect for your trade-in and you can perform a more realistic SUV search with a specific price in mind.
- Have an idea of the type of SUV you would like before you begin shopping. As with anything else, it’s a good idea to have a plan before you visit Liberty Buick GMC. Of course we can help you if you are unsure of what you would like, but the more you know coming in, the faster we can get you in your new ride! Even having a rough idea of your price range, make and model, as well as, color options can be a huge help when walking around on the lot.
- One of the most common hang-ups when buying a car is the paperwork. Having this in order before you purchase will keep you from the headache of trying to navigate through your documents at the last minute. Make sure you have your driver’s license, proof of auto insurance, payment method, and any paperwork you may have on your trade-in. Also, don’t forget to double-check the expiration dates on your insurance card. You would be amazed at how many times this is the culprit for causing frustration and a delay in driving away with a nice, new SUV.
- Lastly, if the process of buying takes a bit, don’t get frustrated. For a purchase such as this to take place properly, it often takes a little time. The most important thing is to be sure everything is done correctly so there are no unpleasant surprises later. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or get clarity on anything even a little confusing. Read the fine print, and make sure you are aware of all your sale bonuses, cash-back offers, and warranties.
We want your experience to as pleasant as possible. We always welcome questions, so don’t be nervous about the process of buying a new car, whether it’s an SUV, sedan, or pickup we have you covered.
Come See Us Today!

GMC Sierra 1500: the Light-Duty Truck that Serves as a Mobile Office

These days it seems the idea of what the modern truck is and should do is changing. What began as a vehicle designed primarily for the working individual, one meant mostly for hauling and towing, is now being used much differently. Sure, trucks still haul and tow, but in a time when vehicles are becoming more versatile, the modern truck has had to evolve. It’s much more than just transportation. Now, a truck is just as much a mobile office as it is anything else, and the way GMC sees it, in order to keep up with the times, the Sierra needed some reimagining. This next step in evolution for the GMC truck has created one of the most innovative and functional vehicles ever created, the GMC Sierra 1500.
Since there is such variety in trucks currently, it can be difficult to decide which one is right for you. Should you focus on power, pull, strength, stamina? Full-size, medium-size, small? Then what about four-wheel-drive versus two-wheel? 8-cylinders versus 6? These questions are just the beginning!
One way to be sure you have the right truck in mind is to think about how you will use it. Today, most truck buyers are finding themselves using their vehicle as a method of transporting bulk and trudging through mud, as well as, a mobile office. That’s right, we have become so busy that now we bring our offices with us wherever we go! This is why you need something that can easily perform all the typical duties of a truck, but one that also has a roomy and plush enough cabin that you can get your paperwork done on the job site, maybe even drive clients around.
With this in consideration, which truck can go back and forth between the rugged and the professional on a whim, and do it with finesse? Let’s have a look at two top contenders: the GMC Sierra 1500 and the Chevy Silverado. Both trucks are selling better than ever because they do well at creating a luxurious and spacious interior, all the while maintaining a tough exterior.
A Quick Comparison: the GMC Sierra 1500 Versus the Chevy Silverado
- Interior Comfort and Quality
After sitting inside both trucks one thing becomes clear, while the Silverado is considered the more value-oriented truck, the Sierra 1500 is pristine. Not to imply the cabin to the Silverado is not nice, because it is. It’s just not as comfortable and sturdy. Inside the Sierra, there is thick leather seating, triple-sealed doors, and enough room to set up a computer, separate stacks of paper, even hold a meeting with a client! The expansive front seat is wide enough to hold three adult passengers comfortably, which allows enough room to spread out and even stretch quite a bit.
Winner: GMC Sierra 1500
- Cargo Space
There are three bed sizes to both the Sierra and the Silverado, but the most common is the 8-foot bed. This size is perfect for setting up an exterior office on a nice, sunny day. If the 8-foot is too big, there is a 6-foot-6-inch bed that might be more accessible. In the Sierra, there is also the option for a regular cab, which has a 126.5-inch wheelbase. There is also an extended-cab and crew-cab version that sit on a 147.4-inch wheelbase. According to GMC, the longest of the two options offers almost 3 extra inches of legroom throughout. Sure, 3 inches might not sound like much, but once inside and settled, this 3 inches goes an awfully long way.
Both beds are sturdy and move as one with the truck as it travels. The nice thing about luxury trucks is you don’t have to worry about the creaking and popping sounds we are used to hearing as we travel down the road and around corners. Both the Sierra 1500 and the Silverado do exceptionally well at offering roomy vehicles that can also carry work materials in the back without sounding like a box full of bolts while you drive.
Winner: both the Sierra and the Silverado
- Interior Features
The already-luxurious Sierra is available in the Denali trim, which sets it even more above the competition. Ventilated and heated leather seats, wireless device charging, navigation, Apple CarPlay, Andriod Auto, and the Bose premium stereo system can turn your Sierra into the nicest office you have ever had.
Conversely, the Silverado has the High Country trim, which is Chevy’s attempt at luxury. This attempt does well with its 20-inch wheels, leather upholstery, heated steering wheel, and 8-inch touch screen, but, yet again, it does not hit the mark set by the Sierra. When it comes to quality interior features, the GMC’s light-duty truck just can’t be topped.
Winner: GMC Sierra 1500
· Ride and Handling
With features such as direct steering and Magnetic Ride Control, both the GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado have incredibly smooth rides. As a matter of fact, both offer drive handling at an entirely new level. The attention paid to making these trucks drive like luxury sedans has paid off well.
The ride and handling don’t only impress on the smooth, open road either. Once you drop off a perspective client or you finish-up all that paperwork, it’s a great idea to do a little off-roading. That’s right, get your new truck a little dirty, see what it can do out on the open trail. You will be impressed!
Winner: both the Sierra and the Silverado
- Reliability
Both trucks come with a three-year/36,000-mile basic warranty, plus a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. However, if you were to look at the J.D. Power Reliability Scores throughout the years on both trucks you would notice they are pretty close. But “pretty close” and “the same” create a big enough difference to sway truck drivers in one direction, towards the GMC Sierra 1500.
Though both the GMC Sierra and the Chevy Silverado share close ties, as they are closely stacked, one does come out better than the other in the end. Sure, most of the features found in one can be found, in some similar degree, in the other, it’s the GMC Sierra that just does it better. With better comfort, content, storage, features, and reliability, the Sierra 1500 is the perfect work truck/mobile office.
A Few More Reasons to Drive the Sierra 1500
The all-new GMC Sierra 1500 doesn’t just do well when stacked against its biggest competitor, it stands strong on its own as well.
The time spent designing and detailing the Sierra is evident. A true sign a vehicle has been made with purpose and precision is not just seen in what is present, it also depends on what is absent. The new Sierra has taken the “less is more” approach in many aspects of its new design, and it has paid off tremendously. You will not find a bunch of extra buttons and components that tend to break and cost money. Everything in and on the Sierra 1500 has a purpose.
The base level of the Sierra 1500 has a 4.3-liter, 6-cylinder engine with 285 horsepower and 305 pound-feet of torque. It can tow up to 7,600 pounds and reach a speed of 60 miles an hour in around eight seconds. Pretty impressive for a base-level engine, huh? But, if you find the need for a little more power, GMC still has you covered with the 1500. Sierra drivers can opt for the 5.3-liter, V-8 engine, which offers 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. And regardless of the engine size, all Sierra 1500s come with a tow/haul mode transmission and tap/shift controls. These controls make driving and distributing power much easier no matter the size of the load being carried.
As noted earlier, comfort and handling are exceptional in the Sierra 1500. There is the option for rear- or four-wheel drive, and the front strut and rear leaf-spring suspension offers an extra smooth ride no matter how many wheels are pushing you along. But, to truly understand the effect of the leaf-spring suspension you need to take the 1500 for a drive, preferably on a rough road or rigid path. You will be amazed at how well the suspension takes any pothole or bump and translates it as smooth, easy driving. In addition to an undisturbed ride, 1500 drivers will enjoy the crisp steering that allows the Sierra to easily make its way around sharp corners and fit into tight spaces.
Every aspect of the Sierra synthesizes together to create a powerful and luxurious driving experience. It’s not only the drive components providing a comfortable ride either. Inside the roomy cabin, the Sierra 1500 is filled with soft materials and pleasing aesthetics. The aluminum and wood trim pieces throughout the inside give of a sense of luxury, while the plush seats and polished dash create a comfortable, happy environment.
The Sierra 1500 is surprisingly tough and pleasantly high-end. It offers superior comfort and power for being considered a light-duty truck. This is a perfect choice for the truck driver who needs something tough, but doesn’t quite need a machine to pull super heavy loads on a daily basis.
Your New Office
An added bonus to the GMC Sierra 1500 is its WiFi hotspot that makes connecting to the internet as easy as in your (actual) office. Combine this powerful connectivity with the comfort and quality of the all-new Sierra and it immediately becomes apparent this truck is simply unmatched.
GMC has realized that comfort doesn’t only mean plush seating and soft-touch materials. True comfort is also created when there is more space to move and reposition. Comfort is when we can enjoy the interior of a truck with others. It’s almost as if GMC could see that the modern truck is moving towards the creation of a modern office: one that is completely mobile yet just as accessible as any other.
Our Favorite Aspects of the Sierra
At Liberty Buick GMC, we love the new Sierra. Its boxy frame is offset by subtle curves running the length of the long truck. The large, shiny grille seems to point from the sides to the crystal clear LED headlights. Plus, it comes in 11 different colors:
- White Frost Tricoat
- Deep Mahogany Metallic
- Cardinal Red
- Satin Steel Metallic
- Pacific Blue Metallic
- Quicksilver Metallic
- Summit White
- Onyx Black
- Dark Sky Metallic
- Red Quartz Tintcoat
- Smokey Quartz Metallic
Inside the Sierra, we can’t get enough of the jet black materials, aluminum and wood accents throughout, and the perforated leather seats. To keep you and your loved ones cozy and safe there are integrated storage bins set throughout, a Multi-color 3-inch by 7-inch Head-Up Display, USB ports, and plenty more surprises to keep everyone happy.
The choice is easy. If you need a truck, and you need a client transport/mobile office, the GMC Sierra 1500 is the absolute best option. Come in and see us today to test drive your new Sierra 1500.

Luxury vehicles have taken on a new persona, as buyers are opting out of sedans and coupes and choosing pickups and SUVs instead. Liberty Buick GMC has answered customer demand for high-end vehicles with an inventory that includes both automakers’ top trim levels and additional upgrades. Brand new 2019 models have been rolling in, but smart buyers will save on 2018 and 2017 luxury models now, as our year-end clearance sale gives you more for your money.
“According to research firm J.D. Power and Associates, $50,000 is the slightly blurry line between mainstream and luxury in today’s auto market,” reports CNBC.
What will $50,000 get you at Liberty Buick GMC? The 2019 Buick Enclave Avenir is a mid-sized SUV that comes with an impressive standard package including three-row, leather seating with
heated driver and front passenger seats; wood-toned accents throughout the cabin; power moonroof with rear fixed skylight; modern amenities like wireless charging, a Bose performance-enhanced premium 10-speaker system; rear park assist; remote start; and a hands-free liftgate; plus safety measures including front and rear parking assist, lane change and departure alerts, and seven airbag system. The Enclave gets an estimated 26 MPG highway, 18 MPG city. The 2019 Enclave Premium is available as an AWD with similar options.
“The Avenir promises tech, safety and comfort features on par with what’s offered in the best luxury crossovers,” writes Edmunds.
U.S. News & World Report ranks the 2019 Buick Enclave second in midsized SUVs, third in SUVs with three rows, and fifth in crossover SUVs, making it a sound investment.
“Its smooth performance and genteel interior are examples of the Enclave’ high levels of refinement, and the current generation earns near-perfect predicted reliability scores,” they write.
The Enclave also boasts one of Buick’s better kept secrets — a balance of class and driveability.
“In this manner, it performs exceptionally well, aided by a V6 engine and a nine-speed automatic transmission that are respectably powerful and polished in most situations, “ U.S. News & World Report writes. “The 310-horsepower setup provides sufficient acceleration off the line and on the highway.”
With nearly $8,000 off 2018 Buick models including the Enclave, it’s a perfect time to buy in to the luxury category, if you haven’t before. You will find the 2018 Buick Enclave, LaCrosse, and TourX in limited quantities and priced from $31,497 to $47,662 available now.
When it comes to trucks, GM is hard to beat. Brand new, top-of-the-line models are arriving at the Liberty Buick GMC lot including a 2019 GMC Sierra 3500HD Crew Cab Long Box 4-Wheel Drive Denali. This beautiful Ebony Twilight Metallic truck runs on a Duramax 6.6L Turbo-Diesel V8 engine and comes loaded with safety, comfort, and features. It has lane departure warning, forward collision alert, and front and rear parking assist, an EZ-Lift and Lower tailgate, sunroof, all weather floor mats, built-in WiFi, keyless entry, remote start, and heated leather seats.
“Even if you ignore unique-to-truck features like those off-road tires, spray-in bed liners and cargo tie-downs, a luxury shopper will find virtually all the features of a high-line sedan now offered on top-end pickups,” writes CNBC.
With even more cabin space, the 2019 GMC Yukon XL is available with 4WD and the Denali trim package and priced about $3,500 less than MSPR
at $77,088 or below. The Yukon XL is, as its name would imply, a larger version of the Yukon with 20 inches more length and a 14-inch wider wheelbase. These specs give the XL a whopping 39.3 cubic feet of cargo volume — more than twice that of the Yukon’s 15.3 cubic feet.
“As capable as they are handsome, the Yukon and the stretched Yukon XL are multitasking machines,” writes Car & Driver. “If your idea of a good time includes hauling the family up a mountain while towing a travel trailer, there are few alternatives to the Yukon.”
We have some great savings available on the 2018 Yukon 4WD Denali and Yukon XL 4WD Denali, as well as the 2018 Yukon 2WD XL Denali, which also are eligible for GMC Special Offers. Prices range from $57,433 to $73,633.

Stealing the Market with Steel: New 2019 Sierra Sheds Weight, Improves MPG, Maintains Safety

The 2019 Sierra has been remade to challenge the dominant Ford F-series of trucks. What’s GM’s trick to achieve more of the market share? Steel and aluminum body construction, paired with a light carbon fiber bed.
The Structure
While steel long has withstood strength tests, the metal’s weight has been a fuel-economy killer for many a car. In the old days, cars were built big and bumpers were designed to do exactly that — bump things, if not crush them. Changing safety standards brought on bumpers designed to crumple, and what once may have been the proverbial fender bender became a plastic replacement process. Being rear ended didn’t produce a ding. It put holes in things.
GM, however, was late to the track when it came to removing steel from autobodies. It’s taken until the new 2019 line of trucks which are, on average, 450 pounds lighter than their predecessors. The weight shed comes from three swing areas — the hood, tailgate, and doors — now manufactured in aluminum. Aluminum is more malleable and elastic than steel and can create shapes that steel typically cannot. Aluminum is about one-third the weight of steel.
With the weight loss, the 2019 Sierra has the fuel-efficiency of a Ford F-series but a steel platform provides the safety you’ve come to expect from GM trucks.
A few years back, Ford shifted from steel to aluminum body construction which, of course, increased fuel-efficiency. However, the large, light-bodied trucks lost points on safety.
With heavy duty capability and steel undergirding, the 2019 GM trucks stand up to the worksite and celebrate solid Americana.
A Step Further
The Sierra Denali will take one step further into the future beyond Ford. A carbon fiber bed strips weight while adding strength. The Denali’s CarbonPro Box (what GM is calling it) is just the start of what’s to come for truck beds. Mark Voss, GM’s engineering group manager, led the efforts to find ways to make a carbon fiber composite bed that is more sustainable, durable, versatile and, ultimately, affordable. Until Voss and team found a way to pioneer applications of carbon fiber for vehicle use, carbon fiber seemed out of reach due to cost. No longer.
The CarbonPro box will be 62 pounds lighter than a steel box and will eliminate the need for a bed liner. Why? Because the CarbonPro box has, according to GM, “best-in-class dent, scratch, and corrosion resistance.”
The composite material of carbon fiber also makes for easier reuse. If scrapped, carbon fiber can be shredded and melted then repurposed. It doesn’t become part of the garbage pile.
Another bed feature actually is found on the Sierra bumper. The CornerStep was introduced on the Sierra 1500 in 2014 before making its way on to the GMC Canyon. The cut-out groove is exactly
what its name implies — a step in the corner. It’s lower to the ground than full bumper height, providing easier access to the truck bed. Now that step has increased in size to accommodate steel-toed boots and comes standard.
The Sierra Denali will have 17/23 MPG and can tow up to 9,600 pounds with its max horsepower of 420hp. Its tailgate will be more innovative, with six different and distinct functions, so that loading and unloading, as well as accessing the cargo box, happens with greater ease. Its powerful 6.2L v-8 engine will offer an all-new 10-speed automatic transmission.
The interior will have sleek lines, jazzed-up technology with smart features, and offer a multicolor head-up display. That new display is first in its class, and the feature lets drivers view important information displayed directly on the windshield. So now, no need to look away from the road to get the important info you need, even on the dash or console. The windshield will offer you the key data you need so your eyes can stay on the road where they belong.
The Sierra Denali starts at $52,900. The Denali also comes as a Denali HD, which increases the tow load up to 23,100 pounds and starts at $56,345. It takes the horsepower up to 445 and comes in two styles: the 2500 and the 3500. The 2500 has a max payload of 3,233 pounds and a towing load of 15,400 pounds; the 3500 delivers towing power at 23,100 pounds and has a max payload of 6,112 pounds. Both the 2500 and 3500 will offer a hood scoop, bringing in cooler induction air temperatures so that the Denali can maximize its horsepower.
There are two more Sierras to explore, rounding out the next generation of GM’s line: the 2019 Sierra 1500 and the Sierra Limited. First, the Sierra 1500 with its SLT crew cab will start at $46,700. It bears similar bells and whistles, 420 horsepower, and towing power of 12,100 lbs. The Limited gives you the hauling and towing power you need in a light-duty truck, with the modern technology you’ve come to expect for today’s vehicles. It will be offered in two trims, Sierra and SLE, and either two- or four-wheel drive. Sleek lines and cool tech cut the shape of its interior — brawn and brains.
Word on the street is that a new 3.0-liter diesel Sierra also is in the works. The in-line six is rumored at 282 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, which would make it the class leader in the half-ton diesel market.
Also running through the rumor mill? First tests on the 2020 Yukon. Styling is said to take from the 2019 Sierra both in styling and platform. Reduced weight by way of aluminum swing panels
(doors, hood, liftgate) and an independent rear suspension are expected. What’s unknown is whether the Yukon will offer the new Duramax LM2 turbo-diesel, which would put out the same horsepower and torque numbers as for the 2019 Sierra.
GM’s Sierra will put Ford on alert. Despite Ford’s dominance in the truck class, GM’s innovative approach to the body (steel-aluminum) and its carbon fiber box will transform the future of trucks. America can only benefit from this rivalry, as each competes for leadership in a field where innovation matters. And what’s more, with the rising scare of tariff wars, GM’s innovative approach of steel, aluminum, and carbon fiber can only help to protect their consumers from the expenses of an all-steel or all-aluminum body.
The 2019 Sierra is on our lot at Liberty Buick GMC now in addition to the 2018s, which are priced to move in our year-end model closeout. You can save more than $10,000 on some 2018 models! It’s a great time to buy.
