There are three bed sizes to both the Sierra and the Silverado, but the most common is the 8-foot bed. This size is perfect for setting up an exterior office on a nice, sunny day. If the 8-foot is too big, there is a 6-foot-6-inch bed that might be more accessible. In the Sierra, there is also the option for a regular cab, which has a 126.5-inch wheelbase. There is also an extended-cab and crew-cab version that sit on a 147.4-inch wheelbase. According to GMC, the longest of the two options offers almost 3 extra inches of legroom throughout. Sure, 3 inches might not sound like much, but once inside and settled, this 3 inches goes an awfully long way.

Both beds are sturdy and move as one with the truck as it travels. The nice thing about luxury trucks is you don’t have to worry about the creaking and popping sounds we are used to hearing as we travel down the road and around corners. Both the Sierra 1500 and the Silverado do exceptionally well at offering roomy vehicles that can also carry work materials in the back without sounding like a box full of bolts while you drive.

• Interior Features

The already-luxurious Sierra is available in the Denali trim, which sets it even more above the competition. Ventilated and heated leather seats, wireless device charging, navigation, Apple CarPlay, Andriod Auto, and the Bose premium stereo system can turn your Sierra into the nicest office you have ever had.

Conversely, the Silverado has the High Country trim, which is Chevy’s attempt at luxury. This attempt does well with its 20-inch wheels, leather upholstery, heated steering wheel, and 8-inch touch screen, but, yet again, it does not hit the mark set by the Sierra. When it comes to quality interior features, the GMC’s light-duty truck just can’t be topped.

Though both the GMC Sierra and the Chevy Silverado share close ties, as they are closely stacked, one does come out better than the other in the end. Sure, most of the features found in one can be found, in some similar degree, in the other, it’s the GMC Sierra that just does it better. Luxury vehicles have taken on a new persona, as buyers are opting out of sedans and coupes and choosing pickups and SUVs instead. U.S. News & World Report ranks the 2019 Buick Enclave second in midsized SUVs, third in SUVs with three rows, and fifth in crossover SUVs, making it a sound investment.

“Its smooth performance and genteel interior are examples of the Enclave’ high levels of refinement, and the current generation earns near-perfect predicted reliability scores,” they write.

The Enclave also boasts one of Buick’s better kept secrets — a balance of class and driveability.

“In this manner, it performs exceptionally well, aided by a V6 engine and a nine-speed automatic transmission that are respectably powerful and polished in most situations, “ U.S. News & World Report writes. “The 310-horsepower setup provides sufficient acceleration off the line and on the highway.”

The Yukon XL is, as its name would imply, a larger version of the Yukon with 20 inches more length and a 14-inch wider wheelbase. These specs give the XL a whopping 39.3 cubic feet of cargo volume — more than twice that of the Yukon’s 15.3 cubic feet.

“As capable as they are handsome, the Yukon and the stretched Yukon XL are multitasking machines,” writes Car & Driver. “If your idea of a good time includes hauling the family up a mountain while towing a travel trailer, there are few alternatives to the Yukon.”

The 2019 Sierra has been remade to challenge the dominant Ford F-series of trucks. What’s GM’s trick to achieve more of the market share? Steel and aluminum body construction, paired with a light carbon fiber bed.

The Structure
While steel long has withstood strength tests, the metal’s weight has been a fuel-economy killer for many a car. In the old days, cars were built big and bumpers were designed to do exactly that — bump things, if not crush them. Changing safety standards brought on bumpers designed to crumple, and what once may have been the proverbial fender bender became a plastic replacement process. Being rear ended didn’t produce a ding. It put holes in things.

GM, however, was late to the track when it came to removing steel from autobodies. It’s taken until the new 2019 line of trucks which are, on average, 450 pounds lighter than their predecessors. The weight shed comes from three swing areas — the hood, tailgate, and doors — now manufactured in aluminum. Aluminum is more malleable and elastic than steel and can create shapes that steel typically cannot. Aluminum is about one-third the weight of steel.

With the weight loss, the 2019 Sierra has the fuel-efficiency of a Ford F-series but a steel platform provides the safety you’ve come to expect from GM trucks.
A few years back, Ford shifted from steel to aluminum body construction which, of course, increased fuel-efficiency. However, the large, light-bodied trucks lost points on safety.
With heavy duty capability and steel undergirding, the 2019 GM trucks stand up to the worksite and celebrate solid Americana.

A Step Further
The Sierra Denali will take one step further into the future beyond Ford. A carbon fiber bed strips weight while adding strength. The Denali’s CarbonPro Box (what GM is calling it) is just the start of what’s to come for truck beds. Mark Voss, GM’s engineering group manager, led the efforts to find ways to make a carbon fiber composite bed that is more sustainable, durable, versatile and, ultimately, affordable. Until Voss and team found a way to pioneer applications of carbon fiber for vehicle use, carbon fiber seemed out of reach due to cost. No longer.
The CarbonPro box will be 62 pounds lighter than a steel box and will eliminate the need for a bed liner. Why? Because the CarbonPro box has, according to GM, “best-in-class dent, scratch, and corrosion resistance.”

The composite material of carbon fiber also makes for easier reuse. If scrapped, carbon fiber can be shredded and melted then repurposed. It doesn’t become part of the garbage pile.

Another bed feature actually is found on the Sierra bumper. The CornerStep was introduced on the Sierra 1500 in 2014 before making its way on to the GMC Canyon. The cut-out groove is exactly what its name implies — a step in the corner. It’s lower to the ground than full bumper height, providing easier access to the truck bed. Now that step has increased in size to accommodate steel-toed boots and comes standard.

The Sierra Denali will have 17/23 MPG and can tow up to 9,600 pounds with its max horsepower of 420hp. Its tailgate will be more innovative, with six different and distinct functions, so that loading and unloading, as well as accessing the cargo box, happens with greater ease. Its powerful 6.2L v-8 engine will offer an all-new 10-speed automatic transmission.

The interior will have sleek lines, jazzed-up technology with smart features, and offer a multicolor head-up display. That new display is first in its class, and the feature lets drivers view important information displayed directly on the windshield. So now, no need to look away from the road to get the important info you need, even on the dash or console. The windshield will offer you the key data you need so your eyes can stay on the road where they belong.

The Sierra Denali starts at $52,900. The Denali also comes as a Denali HD, which increases the tow load up to 23,100 pounds and starts at $56,345. It takes the horsepower up to 445 and comes in two styles: the 2500 and the 3500. The 2500 has a max payload of 3,233 pounds and a towing load of 15,400 pounds; the 3500 delivers towing power at 23,100 pounds and has a max payload of 6,112 pounds. Both the 2500 and 3500 will offer a hood scoop, bringing in cooler induction air temperatures so that the Denali can maximize its horsepower.

There are two more Sierras to explore, rounding out the next generation of GM’s line: the 2019 Sierra 1500 and the Sierra Limited. First, the Sierra 1500 with its SLT crew cab will start at $46,700. It bears similar bells and whistles, 420 horsepower, and towing power of 12,100 lbs. The Limited gives you the hauling and towing power you need in a light-duty truck, with the modern technology you’ve come to expect for today’s vehicles. It will be offered in two trims, Sierra and SLE, and either two- or four-wheel drive. Sleek lines and cool tech cut the shape of its interior — brawn and brains.

Word on the street is that a new 3.0-liter diesel Sierra also is in the works. The in-line six is rumored at 282 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, which would make it the class leader in the half-ton diesel market.

Also running through the rumor mill? First tests on the 2020 Yukon. Styling is said to take from the 2019 Sierra both in styling and platform. Reduced weight by way of aluminum swing panels (doors, hood, liftgate) and an independent rear suspension are expected. What’s unknown is whether the Yukon will offer the new Duramax LM2 turbo-diesel, which would put out the same horsepower and torque numbers as for the 2019 Sierra.
GM’s Sierra will put Ford on alert. Despite Ford’s dominance in the truck class, GM’s innovative approach to the body (steel-aluminum) and its carbon fiber box will transform the future of trucks. America can only benefit from this rivalry, as each competes for leadership in a field where innovation matters. And what’s more, with the rising scare of tariff wars, GM’s innovative approach of steel, aluminum, and carbon fiber can only help to protect their consumers from the expenses of an all-steel or all-aluminum body.

The 2018 Buick Enclave is at the top of the charts, ranking No. 1 in midsize SUVs, No. 2 in SUVs with three-row seating, No. 2 in crossover SUVs, according to U.S. News & World Report. That’s why we have more than 20 Enclaves on the lot at Liberty Buick GMC ready and waiting for you.

Some drivers may know that the Enclave itself is not an addition to the market; however, it is a completely redesigned one. The first-generation Enclave was in production for 10 years. Now, the Enclave completely earns the description “new and improved.”

The Volkswagen Atlas is a new model for 2018, and it’s similar to the Enclave in many ways. Both SUVs have roomy cabins, long features lists, smooth rides, and poised handling. The Atlas’ standard four-cylinder engine is more fuel-efficient than the Enclave’s V6 powertrain. Still, the Atlas has an optional V6 for more power. The VW has ample space for occupants in all three rows, and it nearly matches the Enclave’s cargo capacity. The base Atlas costs about $9,000 less than the base Enclave, making it a great bargain – though higher trims are more in line with what you’d pay for the Enclave.

Like the coffee or cola commercials in which consumers take a blind taste-test to select the best, Buick is betting that ditching its nameplate badge will help revive the brand. At Liberty Buick GMC, we’re rather fond of the Buick name, so we were interested to learn that beginning with the 2019 Buick Envision, the classic “Buick” on liftgates and decklids – the only external places on which the name is featured – will be banished.

Is this move akin to when Prince changed his name to an unpronounceable symbol? Will the company’s three-shield badge do what Buick has been struggling to do – finally make the brand cool? Can a logo change how we feel about a name?

In order for a brand to be remembered, it must have what psychologist Carol Moog calls an “emotional, non-verbal association,” in an article from Branding Strategy Insider.

“What is evoked emotionally, visually, symbolically, by a particular name?” Moog asks.

Part of the problem for Buick is that for the past 20 years or so the brand HAS had an association – that of being a car for those who have rambled over the hill and come to prefer seating space over speed.

But the Buick name wasn’t always that way. Autoweek shared a look back at the “10 Favorite Buicks of the Last 107 Years.” In 1909, Buick was tops at the race track. Bob Burman finished first in a 250-mile event with an average speed of 53 mph. Of the nine cars that finished the race, three were Buicks. In 1954, the Buick Wildcat II sported a “Nailhead” V8 and four sidedraft carburetors for extra horsepower. The Buick GSX of 1970 was no slouch with 455-hp V8 and 510 lb-ft of torque that took it from 0-60 in 5.5 seconds. Buick hit the Indianapolis and Indy tracks with the Century 500 Pace Car in ’76 and an ’84 March Indy Car that set a record for production-spec engine blocks. By 2012, the Buick Regal GS was hailed as one of the most collectible Buicks of all time with 207 hp from a turbocharged four-cylinder with a manual transmission. In 2016, the Avista arrived as a rear-wheel drive, 400-hp, twin-turbocharged V6, and this year, the all new Buick TourX brings all-wheel-drive and advanced suspension to a Buick built for the outdoors.

With all this power and speed, it’s a wonder that anyone ever considered Buick to be boring.

What will happen to Buick without the brand name emblazoned on the backs of its cars? There’s an interesting psychological effect that will come into play. Our brains can complete the picture for us.

“Gestalt psychology is about how we perceive the world around us, and is largely about how our brain interprets shape and form,” writes Graham Jones of Brand Quarterly. “[It] suggests that we can often perceive things as a complete whole, even if the item is not finished.”

We do not need to read a brand name in addition to seeing a logo. The logo, like for Nike or McDonalds, becomes representative of the brand name. It’s almost like an old See n’ Say – when the arrow stops at the picture of the dog, we know to bark. When we see three shields will we still say Buick?

Perhaps part of the point is that we ask, “Is that a Buick?”

Amazon’s in-car delivery service is a step into the future and allows a new partnership between the automotive industry and Amazon. Buick and GMC vehicles that are a 2015 model or newer and have the OnStar system are eligible to participate in the Amazon in-car delivery option.

How It Works:

The Rodeo is back and Liberty Buick GMC is proud to support the awesome group of people from South Carolina High School Rodeo Association. These high schoolers competed at the Mini Mac Storage Rodeo Arena in Mint Hill, North Carolina. The weekend was full of excitement with a wonderful completion that was both enjoyable for those competing and entertaining for the spectators. Scott McCorkle, owner of Liberty Buick GMC, was a spectator at the event. He enjoyed watching the completions and was able to meet a few of the rodeo animals.

The rodeo kicked off with the classic patriotic entrance and the national anthem. Then the different competitions begin. The rodeo had some very talented individuals that competed in a number of different events. Some of the events included:

• Breakaway
• Steer Wrestling
• Barrel Racing
• Calf Scramble
• Candy Scramble

The top four in each event will move on to the National Rodeo Finals.

The South Carolina Rodeo Association has been around for over 40 years helping students get involved with the sport. The non-traditional sport is a great opportunity for students in South Carolina to explore a sport different from many others. The association is supervised and coached by knowledgeable adults who are interested in helping the youth get involved in a sport that they are passionate about.

Liberty Buick GMC proudly help sponsor this fun and entertaining event. Overall, the rodeo was a success, the rodeo competitors had a wonderful time participating in events and spectators enjoyed a fun and entertaining event. There were activities for kids of all ages and was a great event for families. Scott McCorkle made friends with a few of the horses and is already looking forward to next year’s rodeo.
