Car loan scams are more common than you think. Car dealerships, as well as, independent lenders can run a scam—but make it look so legit that you would think it is a normal, run-of-the-mill loan company. Scams are scary and dangerous, can ruin your credit, or overcharge you with exorbitant loan rates, fees, and high interest.
We at Credit Capitol want to help you understand what sort of scams to watch out for, in general. Because we are a legitimate lending agency, registered with the Better Business Bureau, we can inform you about some of the scams we have seen take in some of our customers, who came to us to get out of the scam they had gotten into.
If it is too good to be true, it probably is—that’s the best rule of thumb when considering a loan. A loan should be advantageous to you the borrower, but it should also benefit the lender—honest loans do help both parties in the loan agreement. A scam loan will make a too-good-to-be-true offer, which hides just how badly they will fleece you. Let’s look at a few common scams, and how they work.
- Guaranteed Approval
Have you seen the advertisements from car dealerships, guaranteeing your loan approval? They often say “no one turned down, no one turned away” or something like that. Sure, those dealerships could deliver on such a promise—but at what cost?
Often the dealer has to work with near-predatory lenders, in order to get people with poor, or no, credit into a loan offer. That means high interest rates and high fees. It is best to avoid such dealerships, because their main aim is to sell you a car at any cost—you want to choose an honest dealer that will put you behind the wheel of a car with honest loan terms.
- Yo-Yo Financing
You are given one set of terms, for a loan, and drive off the lot with your new car. Great!—until they call you a week later and tell you that your loan fell through and now you have to work with a new loan company to refinance the fallen-through loan. So you drove off, having originally budgeted for $275/month but now, with this “new financing” deal, you are paying $375. The dealership might even threaten repossession or calling the police on you, if you don’t agree to the new terms.
How to avoid such a scam? Be sure that the loan offer has the phrase “subject to credit approval” in it, so that you know you are not driving off the lot before all the paperwork is signed and the loan terms sealed.
- Upfront Fees
A proper loan is structured in such a way that the loan origination fee comes out of the borrowed total. So, you borrow $25,000 and the loan origination fee is $400; you would have that fee as part of the total loan that is financed, and it becomes part of the repayment structure.
The “upfront fees” scam asks you to pay a loan origination fee upfront, before the loan is approved—or, even, in order to apply for the loan! This is a scam! Do not continue to do business with any lender that seeks for you to pay loan fees separate from the loan itself. Think of the fees and interest as a package deal: you pay for all of it through structured, monthly payments.
- Packing Payments
Instead of getting you to see the whole picture—the monthly payment which breaks down the amount allocated to principal, the amount to interest and fees—this strategy pushes the idea that “I am only paying $250 a month” and gets you to overlook or ignore the added fees. So a $10 fee here or a $20 fee there—a fee added in order to authorize to make the monthly payment—adds up to hundreds upon hundreds of dollars over the life of the loan.
Avoid this by insisting to see all of the language about the payments in clear, precise terms. Honest lenders have nothing to hide.
- Loan Modifications
You took out a loan you cannot pay for? Suddenly companies send you emails or make calls, telling you that they are a credit counseling service that can renegotiate the loan and save you money—but for a fee. It is too good to be true, so don’t do it! These companies scam you by charging you fees to do things with your loan that really cannot be done. You cannot renegotiate a loan once the terms are set.
If you are in over your head, you really need a new loan with new terms, rates, and repayment plan, so you can use that loan to pay-off the troublesome one.
Remember, honest lenders have nothing to hide because they want to be reputable companies that do honest business. Always do business with lenders, like Credit Capitol, who are upfront and honest about the entire cost of a loan. Most honest lenders are listed with some kind of watchdog, like the Better Business Bureau. Be wary of any lender that wants to give you a too-good-to-be-true loan—they are scammers!

The sleek new Encore GX comes to us next year, and it’s quickly becoming all the rage. An already successful crossover vehicle, the 2020 Encore GX arrives with a brand new look, feel, and size. That’s right, the all-new Encore GX fits itself perfectly between the subcompact Encore and the compact Envision, in terms of size, and it makes big moves by way of upgrades. Buick brings excitement to the crossover market, and we can’t wait to drive the new Encore GX.
For the past ten to twenty years, crossover vehicles (a modern morphing of a sedan and an SUV) have grown in popularity. These vehicles have now become such a part of our lives, it seems that’s mostly what we see out on the roads. It’s no surprise car manufacturers have taken notice of this, and we are seeing the crossover market grow at an incredible rate—in particular, smaller crossovers. Vehicles like the Jeep Compass, Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, the Subaru Crosstreck, and the soon-to-arrive Mazda CX-30 are all creating their own habitat within the crossover family. The 2020 Buick Encore is a perfect addition to this lineup; only it’s not just another pretty face. The new Encore GX hopes to take the lead by adding extra style, luxury, and technology to the Encore.
The Look
There’s really no other way to put it: the 2020 Buick Encore GX looks cool. A chrome surround starts at the front and reaches to the back; large taillights emphasize the breadth of the vehicle, while the slow curvature along the sides seems to pull the body in, giving it a fit, sporty aesthetic. The large grille up front is non-intrusive, but it does make a statement that this is something new, and quite possibly Buick’s most modern move in years.
Honestly, not until you see the Buick emblem would you be able to guess who makes this crossover. Nothing against the Buick brand, this is just something brand new. It’s luxurious, yet simple—a crossover but something much more; this is something we haven’t seen before from Buick.
Though we don’t have a lot of information on the new Encore GX just yet, what we do know is impressive. Inside there are the standard soft-touch materials throughout, LED lighting, and an Infotainment center with all the bells and whistles.
Compared to the Encore, the GX has 5.0 cubic feet more cargo space, and it comes with (standard) the following safety features:
- Automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection
- Lane-keeping assist, and lane-departure warning
- A rear-camera mirror and surround-view monitor
The Specs
Though Buick is keeping a lot of information about the 2020 Encore GX close to the chest, we do have a list of specs to give an idea of just how substantial the GX is. Have a look at the breakdown:

With 882 Google reviews and a rating of 4.8 out of 5 stars, customers have a lot to say about Liberty Buick GMC. We pay attention to these reviews because Google ratings are probably the most transparent in the industry. It’s not easy to fake a Google Review and we help safe-guard this process by monitoring every review for authenticity.
We understand that adherence to the Google Guidelines creates transparency that illuminates our bad reviews, as well as, our good ones. We’re not perfect. Every company drops the ball now and then, but we want people to know that we are paying attention to those imperfections and are constantly trying to improve our services. Often times, what our customers write about us is the most transparent form of information, and a great way to get a glimpse into how our dealership operates.

For example, have a look at what one reviewer had to say about her recent experience at Liberty:
“Had such a great experience at Liberty Buick GMC last week. Justin was really helpful during my shopping experience and had a lot of patience while looking at several vehicles on the lot! There wasn’t any pressure to buy, unlike most car dealerships. This company really values their customers and their employees really seem to care about finding the right vehicle for you instead of it just being another purchase for them! Again, thanks so much, Justin! We will definitely be back.”
“Helpful,” “patient,” “wasn’t any pressure,” “values their customers,” these are some impressive pieces of information, ones we like to hear. Nice work Justin!
Here’s another from a very happy customer:
“Where do we start?! Ben was AMAZING to work with! He respected what we wanted and what we were looking for and made it happen! His customer service was impeccable and attitude was great!” Alright, Ben!
What both of these reviews—as well as hundreds of others—represent is that we care for our customers. In fact, we love working with them, providing excellent service by always placing their needs first. Above any sale, any special offer, what matters most are the wants and needs of every Liberty customer.
Liberty Buick GMC loves its customers, and it shows.

The new trim level for Buick, the Avenir line, offers an exciting and fresh look to the LaCrosse, Enclave, and Regal. Similarly to how GMC tricked out its high-end vehicles in the Denali trim level, Buick is now taking us to new levels of luxury. Here at Liberty Buick GMC, we want to take a good, long look at what the Avenir offers.
So what, exactly, does the Avenir line of trim levels give us? And what kind of cost will put you behind the wheel of one of the Avenir line of Buicks?
This high-end trim level means a unique, upscale look to the vehicle, as well as, loading it with features only available within the Avenir line. It’s a step-up from the Premier package of trim details available across the Buick family. It adds some jazz and some sleek upscale feels to what Buick has happening in the cabin and outside it.
Buick presents the Avenir line as the “highest expression of Buick luxury, offering unique style cues.” We like the sound of that description, so let’s have a look this month at what the Avenir is, and what it offers prospective buyers.
The Enclave
The Enclave has become a flagship Crossover SUV for the Buick family, so upgrading the trim levels only means more of that signature Buick look and feel. And, with a 3.6-liter V6 Engine, sporting 310 horsepower and 266 lb-ft torque, the Enclave is truly one of the most powerful Crossover SUVs in its class. It has nine-speed automatic transmission, to boot. And, with its size, the Enclave offers one of the roomiest rides along with significant cargo space.
As Buick describes it, the “Enclave Avenir elevates your SUV experience with its captivating exterior styling, soothing interior refinements and suite of intuitive standard amenities.”
The Enclave is definitely worth a hard look when considering your next purchase. It is stylish, sleek, and has a generous interior that gives it some of its best-selling features. And with the new Avenir trim levels, especially when it comes to its technology upgrades, you cannot go wrong in your choice here.
Exterior Upgrades
- A 3-d mesh grille with chrome wings
- 20-inch, six-spoke wheels in a pearl nickel finish
- Five exterior colors to choose from—only available with the premium line
- The Avenir line’s script badges on both front fenders
We think these new looks to the exterior of the Enclave really set it apart. Replacing that vertical chrome grille with the black mesh one truly makes a new statement for Buick. With sleeker taillights and twin exhaust, the rear of the Enclave has a sleek and refined look. This crossover’s attractive look will definitely turn some eyes as you roll along the metro Charlotte region.
Interior Upgrades
- A chestnut interior that comes with Ebony piping on seats, including contrasting stitching
- Embroidered headrests on the front seats
- Wood-accented steering wheel
- Avenir floormats and Avenir-scripted sill plates on all doors
The three-row Enclave offers you spaciousness, good cargo space, and a roomy feel. The wood accents give the cabin a posh, exclusive feel. That look, paired with the chestnut brown leather seats (they are crafted with hand-stitching and offer lumbar support) makes for a great contrast of tones. Brown, black, and beige hues add up to a life-of-luxury experience in the cabin. It’s not just a good look, it’s a good experience which the Avenir trim levels give you. The wood accents are unique to the Avenir line, recalling the vintage days when upscale, classy cars embodied their luxury in wood trimming.
Technology Upgrades
- Driver information center with an 8-inch diagonal screen
- Standard Buick Infotainment System with Navigation and a Color Touch Screen (8-inch diagonal)
- Wireless charging station (standard only on Avenir line)
- Rear mirror camera (standard only on Avenir line)
- Surround vision (standard only on Avenir line)
- Power dual moonroof with a rear fixed skylight (standard only on Avenir line)
The genius of Buick is to give you two different screens, each with their own set of apps and information. The driver’s screen gives you all the details about your driving metrics, making for easy access to a host of data. The Infotainment screen is your primary center for interactions with your smart devices, as well as navigation, radio, camera view, climate control, and more. The Infotainment center is ready for both CarPlay and Android Auto, so you’re covered there. By jazzing up both of these screens, the Avenir line delivers on the promise of a technologically savvy experience behind the wheel.
We especially love the wireless charging station, which lets your Qi-enabled smart devices to charge without any pesky cords getting in the way. Like any charging mat, you simply lay your Qi-enabled device on the charging station and it powers up. Brilliant!
And don’t forget to take note of the USB ports in the second row of seats, in the cabin, along with its own climate control console. More devices can be charged and your backseat passengers can set their own comfort levels. And the third row isn’t left out: USB ports can be found there too. And—we think this is useful for any tailgate party—the second row has a 110-volt outlet. Mini-fridge, anyone?
Lastly, we really love the rear mirror camera, as well as, the surround vision, both of which enhance the safety features of the Buick Avenir line of vehicles. The more safety features, the better—because as we spend more and more time in our cars, on the highways, we need more and more reliable safety features and assets to ensure we have the safest possible ride. And, to boot, who wouldn’t like a power dual moonroof with a fixed skylight?
Avenir Technology Package (for an extra $2,095)
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Forward Automatic Braking
- Upper active aero shutters
- Real-time damping suspension (adjusts damping forces every two milliseconds)
This is where we would have liked to see Buick make standard the features found in the Technology Package. Though they did not, the option available to you delivers on a few extra, but highly convenient, add-ons that will make your driving experience all the smoother and better. We especially love the forward automatic braking, for obvious safety reasons, as well as the adaptive cruise control which, as the name says, adapts to your driving style and needs.
Pricing
The MSRP starts at about $57,155 but Liberty Buick GMC has some great deals on the Enclave with Avenir trim, starting at $46,781 and topping out at $47,413. Those prices include purchase allowance, select market bonus cash, and could include GM Loyalty Purchase Cash (if you qualify). You will not find a lower price anywhere but at Liberty Buick GMC.
The Regal
Buick’s Regal Sportback also got the upgraded, exclusive Avenir trim treatment. The four-door Sportback, with front-wheel drive, is the only Regal that will get the Avenir trim level. Its powertrain sports a 2.0-liter turbocharged, four-cylinder engine that has the heft of 250 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, running a nine-speed automatic transmission. That’s some power!
The three-dimensional grille, with mesh look on the upper grille, sets off the signature Avenir look. The Regal, too, has those beautiful 19-inch wheels in a Pearl Nickel finish. Trimmed out with LED headlights and cornering lamps, the Regal Avenir has a finished, smooth look to its exterior. Also, the driver’s side-mirror features an auto-dimming mechanism.
The best and latest of Buick’s technological features figure prominently in the interior. With an eight-inch infotainment system, you have access to navigation, and cloud connectivity (for software updates). The Regal offers a wireless charging pad for smart devices, as well as, eight-speaker Bose stereo system, giving you only the best sound for all of your cruising tunes. And, if you have more than one Buick Avenir vehicle, you can sync your preferences across the models, to create a seamless driving experience in any car you drive.
With Whisper Beige leather and Ebony accents as the signature look to the cabin, you won’t be confused at all—you will know this is a luxury sedan you are in! And this leather-accent cabin look is exclusively available only on the Avenir line. Like the Enclave and the LaCrosse, the seats feature diamond-quilted sections with contrasting stitching and Ebony piping, along with the Avenir embroidered badge on the front row headrests. The sill plates also carry the Avenir logo.
The Regal Avenir offers an assistance suite that will ensure a smooth, pleasurable ride—and this comes standard. That suite includes rear parking assist, rear cross traffic alert, lane change alert, and blind zone alert. These safety features come standard on the Buick Regal Avenir, and you can add adaptive cruise control as part of the optional extra technology package.
Buck reminds us: “Merging turbocharged performance and elevating style, the First-Ever Regal Avenir affirms its status as a true luxury performance sedan.”
The LaCrosse
The LaCrosse offers a stunning experience—the Avenir experience. Outside, you are looking at upper and lower grilles that have an exclusive mesh look. This spruces up the feel of the LaCrosse quite a bit. It sits on 19-inch Pearl Nickel alloy wheels, but you can take those up a notch to the larger 20-inch that comes in a Midnight Silver finish.
Inside the LaCrosse Avenir’s posh cabin means casting your gaze on the Chestnut look exclusive only to the Avenir line. The wood trimming and accents, including on the steering wheel, give the
LaCrosse a refined look. Want Ebony trimming in the interior, instead of Chestnut? Buick gives you that option, too. And the embroidered headrests say “luxury” in this upgraded sedan’s cabin. And Buick sets a flourish on the headrests of the front row, with the Avenir logo, and adorns the same logo on the sill plates. This is no standard LaCrosse.
The LaCrosse Avenir will come with available all-wheel drive, the Dynamic Drive Package, and loads of safety features. Some of those standard features include rear parking assist, rear cross traffic alert, lane change alert, and blind zone alert. Also available, as part of the extra technology package, is adaptive cruise control.
Presenting the LaCrosse on their Avenir webpage, Buick says of it: “Precise craftsmanship is reflected in every inch of LaCrosse Avenir, from its signature 3-dimensional mesh grille to its perforated leather-appointed seating.” It has a lot going on both under the hood and in the cabin!
Why not?
We think the best way to think about the Avenir is to come out and have a look at what it’s got going on. Test-drive it to get the whole Avenir experience. Jump into the cabin and feel the leather, see the intricate details (the piping, the contrasting hand-stitching) and run your hands along the wood details that make the Buick Avenir better than the others.
The Avenir line offers an excellent experience: comfort, smoothness, and sleek design add up to a luxurious experience that is not to be missed. When you think Avenir, think luxury, think experience, think finesse. It’s a luxury line that is worthy of the Buick heritage and is, truly, its crown jewel of design.
See Your Way to Safety with the XtraVue Trailer System – Liberty Buick GMC Trailering Solutions
If you’ve ever driven while hauling a trailer, you know the challenges that come with it. No matter how many years of experience you have, merging onto the highway, switching lanes, taking turns, backing up, and parking anywhere can be stressful and dangerous. Over time, a driver can get used to the weight of a trailer, and maneuvering around can become second nature. However, there’s always that one impediment that can conjure up anxiety: even the most seasoned trailer haulers don’t have eyes in the back of their heads. And even if they did, they can’t see past the massive trailer behind their truck. Until now.
French automotive supplier Valeo recently premiered their XtraVue Trailer system at the 2019 Consumer Electronics Show. Later this summer, the groundbreaking technology is slated to debut on the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD models. It will show up on the vehicle features list as “Transparent Trailer View.” Here is some more information on the system:

What is it?
The XtraVue Trailer system is described by Valeo as technology that “allows the user of a trailer or a caravan to visualize the environment behind it.” Basically, it combines the video of your vehicle’s rearview camera with that of an additional camera on the rear of the trailer to form a single composite video that displays on a screen, which can easily be seen by the driver. According to demonstrations, this creates a seamless view of the environment surrounding the vehicle, including directly behind the trailer. In essence, it renders your trailer virtually invisible.
How does it work?
How the XtraVue Trailer system works is not unlike that of the “Stealth Sheet” being developed by the United States military, which is pretty much an invisibility cloak via nanotechnology. The primary difference between the two is that the XtraVue Trailer is not nearly as complex. Though the technology of the XtraVue Trailer is brilliant, it’s also straightforward and easy enough for the average driver to use comfortably.
While early applications of the XtraVue Trailer system involved 15 cameras, the newest version that premiered in January has the science down to two cameras: one on the rear of the vehicle and one connected to the rear of the trailer. During the driving process, the XtraVue Trailer system combines these two feeds into a single video, removes extraneous content (i.e., the trailer), and fixes the background in the trailer’s place. This video is projected through a large screen that is mounted where the driver can safely view it.
Safety Implications
The selling point for the XtraVue Trailer system—and, indeed, what makes it such a distinguished product—is that it makes your trailer invisible. This means that it opens up visibility for the driver. Visibility equals safety for both the driver and the surrounding drivers.
Anyone with towing experience will tell you that the larger the trailer is, the less you can see, which poses many dangers on the road. Maneuvers that are simple without a trailer (e.g., making turns, changing lanes, reversing toward other vehicles) become challenging with a huge box hanging behind you. Even with extended mirrors, your view cannot be fully trusted.
In pre-XtraVue days, the safest method to execute maneuvers while towing a trailer was usually to have a partner help you. For instance, they could tell you when it’s clear to switch lanes or get out and spot you while you park. But what if you don’t have anyone with you when you’re driving? Also, relying on another person is not as effective as seeing the surroundings yourself. This is where the XtraVue Trailer system proves most valuable, and its technology can work with a trailer as long as 32 feet.
A Work in Progress
This is not Valeo’s first go at the XtraVue Trailer system. The 2018 release was met with mixed reviews; the technology was great but lacked the simplicity necessary to see production. For example, the original version required several video feeds from surrounding infrastructure, as well as, other vehicles on the road. With the new version, you only need the XtraVue Trailer equipment on your vehicle and trailer. While the product images show the system displaying on a separate screen, it can be expected that the XtraVue Trailer system will run through the infotainment screen in stock vehicles (such as the Sierra).
The Valeo XtraVue Trailer system provides drivers with visibility, which makes the driving experience safer for everyone involved. This brilliant, refined technology is now becoming available to consumers everywhere. Keep your eyes peeled for updates on the XtraVue Trailer system, and be sure to come over to Liberty Buick GMC and check it out for yourself.
Ranked as one of the top midsize sport utility vehicles (SUVs), the GMC Acadia stands out amongst the competition. With four different versions to choose from, there is something to suit everyone’s style and needs, from bachelors to soccer moms.
Commonly discussed advantages of adding on Acadia to your garage come in terms of the vehicle’s specs. Aside from the user-friendly technology that can be found in the vehicle’s cozy luxury interior, the Acadia also offers above-average gas mileage for a vehicle of its class. All models of the Acadia manage between 17-21 miles per gallon in cities and about 26 mpg on the highway.
For drivers looking to accommodate their families, friends, or a full carpool, the Acadia can be a great option. With the ability to add a third row of seats, the Acadia can hold up to seven passengers. And, unlike other midsize SUVs with optional third rows, having the additional seating does not eliminate space or storage within the Acadia. With the third row in place, there is still storage space in the rear of the vehicle that should hold your passenger’s items with ease. The third row can be retracted if additional storage space is needed in the back of the vehicle.
If you are looking for a vehicle that can take you around the city and off road, then the Acadia might be right for you. Like other vehicles, it primarily relies on front-wheel drive capabilities, but when enabled by the driver, it can also utilize all-wheel drive. Having AWD capabilities can be extremely helpful if you find yourself going on adventures outside of the city. After all, you never know where you might find yourself when driving the new GMC Acadia.

Each model of the Acadia has advanced features. With four different models to choose from, every driver has the opportunity to choose the perfect trim. The Acadia is offered in four model versions, including the SL, SLE, SLT, and Denali:
- The GMC Acadia SL costs around $29,000. It includes standard Acadia features, such as a rearview camera, infotainment system, touch screen, Bluetooth, a six-speaker audio system, satellite radio capability, USB ports, and more. This model of the Acadia does not offer the same V6 engine or all-wheel drive that the other models do, however, for someone looking for the bare minimum that the Acadia can offer, this model grants them a luxurious surplus.
- The GMC Acadia SLE model has two variations: the SLE-1 and the SLE-2. The SLE-1 costs about $32,800, while the SLE-2 costs around $35,200. For an additional cost, the SLE-1 variation of this model can be upgraded to all-wheel drive capability; however, it was originally only designed to utilize front-wheel drive. A V6 engine can be added to this variation for an additional cost. The SLE-2 is available with FWD and AWD capabilities with the engine of your choosing. The standard version of this model also comes with a power-lift gate, heated front seats, and an adjustable driver’s seat.
- Like the SLE model, the GMC Acadia SLT has two variations: the SLT-1 and the SLT-2. The SLT-1 is priced around $38,000 and the SLT-2 is close to $41,900. The SLT-1 features the standard adjustable seats, leather upholstery, a Bose audio system, a larger touch screen, and much more. You can also add the V6 engine and all-wheel drive to this variation for an additional cost. Unlike other models and variations, the SLT-2 is only offered with the V6 engine. It also comes standard with heated front- and second-row seats, parking sensors in the front and rear of the vehicle, collision alert, lane assistance, blind spot monitoring, and a low-speed automatic brake system. You could also choose to add all-wheel drive capabilities for an additional cost.
- Finally, the top-of-the-line Acadia model: the GMC Acadia Denali. Starting around $45,500, this model is the best that the Acadia can offer. It comes standard with a V6 engine, a navigation system, hands-free lift gate, a heated steering wheel, all-wheel drive capabilities, and tons more. The technology this model offers includes adaptive cruise control, automatic braking, and surround-view cameras.
Unlike other popular midsize sport utility vehicles, the GMC Acadia offers a lot of tech features and a luxurious feel, while still being able to accommodate a full family. Despite being in such a competitive class of vehicles, the Acadia has managed to stand out amongst the competition.
What are you waiting for? Head to your local Liberty Buick GMC dealer and test drive an Acadia today!
This month we want to spotlight two great Buicks, the Envision and the Encore, and highlight some of their brilliant features, which you should consider. We will contrast the two to help you make an informed decision about which model of Buick’s line of crossover SUVs is best for you.

The Envision
Doesn’t its name say it all? Envision is, of course, a pun to think about what you can envision for your family’s ease of transportation. It draws out ideas of what’s possible, what’s likely, when owning the Envision. Buick wants you to think of this as a can-do vehicle, an SUV with a positive attitude. It’s a supersized small luxury SUV, with bling and pizzazz.
The 2019 Buick Envision has been updated, in its design, and we think it’s something worth taking a look at. For all models and trim levels, this SUV has had its rear valance reworked along with its exhaust tip. It has a sleek look to it, now more than ever, and it really gives the Envision a refined sense of spirit. What sort of changes did Buick make, specifically? Let’s have a closer look:
First, there are two gasoline engine options for the Buick Envision, and the exhaust design depends on which engine you select. We are excited about the new look and style this renovated exhaust design carries.
Of the two engines offered, the first is the 2.5L I-4 LCV, naturally-aspirated, which is the base model engine for the Buick Envision. It features a single-outlet stainless steel exhaust, which is hidden from sight. Now tucked under the vehicle, the exhaust tip doesn’t show. That means a more sporty, stylish look. Also take note: the Envision has a metal-look valance now that replaced the black fascia treatment of previous models. The metal valance gives the Envision a more integrated look. Cleaner design, trendier feel—that’s what Buick has given us.
Its 2.5L inline four-cylinder engine gives you 197 horsepower with a torque of 192 pound-feet. That’s a six-speed automatic transmission and is standard for the base, Preferred and Essence models. That’s enough horsepower to climb hills and pull a trailer along. It’s got the power and stamina you want for city driving or a cruise in the countryside.
The second option is the 2.0L 1-4 turbocharged LTG, the next level up. This model engine carries a dual exhaust treatment. With the 2019 model, the tips of the exhaust pipe are squared off, replacing the rounded tips seen on the 2017 and 2018 Envision models. If you opt for premium trim, then you get the metal-look lower valance as well, replacing the black version of it standard in previous models.
This option, the turbocharged 2.0L, is matched to the nine-speed automatic transmission (from GM) and comes with standard all-wheel drive. The turbocharged engine delivers 252 horsepower with 295 pound-feet of torque—a powertrain worth its salt. This engine comes standard for both the Premium 1 and Premium 2 models of the 2019 Buick Envision.
Both engines have excellent gas mileage, averaging 29MPG highway and 22MPG city. And for a crossover SUV, we know those are good numbers. Moreover, it was ranked by US News and World Report as #14 in the Luxury Compact SUVs category, putting it next to the 2019 Infiniti QX50 and 2019 Alfa Romeo Stelvio (both sit at #12) and the 2019 Lincoln MKC (#15). That ranking carries a score of 7.9 out of 10, based on thirty-two specifications for evaluation. Translation: the 2019 Buick Envision keeps good company and can roll with the best of them, and it is far more affordable than other Luxury Compact SUVs—without sacrificing the bells and whistles you want in a compact SUV.
What do the experts say about it? US News and World Report gave it high marks for the following: spacious, supportive seats; good gas mileage; and user-friendly tech features. Though it fell down in some categories (less than nimble handling; its rivals have more up-scale interiors), US News found noteworthy some of its new features for the 2019 model. Those include: the nine-speed automatic transmission with turbo engine; new headlights and taillights; updates to existing tech features; and more torque for a turbo engine. Those new features make certain that you need to give the 2019 Buick Envision a close, thorough look!
US News’ conclusions are pretty positive as well: “The Buick Envision is a pretty good SUV. It certainly delivers on some fronts…[and] it has a lower starting price than most of its class rivals…” The 2019 Buick Envision’s starting price is around $32,000 and with that pricing, it gets you into the luxury SUV class easily.
And what about Edmunds and its assessment of the 2019 Envision? They noted the quietness of the cabin at highway speeds, the comfortable seats and ride which the Envision sports, and they liked the four USB ports, as well as, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto as standard features. They gave it a ranking of 7.2 out of 10 and named it their #9 Small SUV pick, beating out the Ford Escape in its top-ten rankings.
A few features we like on the 2019 Encore:
- It has intelligent all-wheel drive
- It offers a powerful wireless charging in a vertical charging pocket
- It comes with excellent safety features, like Surround Vision
- Its look has a higher level of refinement, from its exquisite grille to the sculpted rear profile
What we really love on the 2019 Envision is its trimmer, new look for the exhaust system. It says, “city slicker.” It says, “stylish and confident.” It says, “smooth and refined.” It cleans up the SUV’s exterior look and it features the profile of the overall design (rather than having the tail pipe sticking out and looking less classy).
And when you are rolling around Charlotte, driving up Providence Road or cruising over to NoDa for some unique cuisine, you want your vehicle to say something about you. You want it to convey a sense of style and refinement—that’s what the 2019 Buick Envision says about you, as you ride around Charlotte. So imagine rolling up to Southpark Mall for a shopping excursion in the 2019 Encore. See yourself riding in the sleek, modern design, as you pull into a parking spot and jump out for lunch and some browsing at Nordstrom. Come and test drive one today!
The Encore
US News and World Report ranks the 2019 Buick Encore as—wait for it—#7 in Subcompact SUVs. That beats out the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek, 2019 Ford EcoSport, and the 2019 Toyota C-HR. That ranking of #7 was arrived at by examining over 46 pieces of research and data, and evaluating the Subcompact SUV across many rigorous standards.
When evaluating the 2019 Buick Encore, US News found it scored highly in the following categories: nice interior with lots of standard features; user-friendly infotainment system; nimble handling; and outstanding predicted reliability rating. Though it scored less well in the categories of its base engine’s powertrain or its pricing compared to its rivals, it did score for its reshuffled trim, which is new for 2019.
With drivetrains that can be either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive and engine configurations sporting 138-153 horsepower, it’s definitely worth your consideration. And, with 24-26MPG in the city, and 29-31MPG on the highway, its fuel efficiency is definitely a selling point. In fact, US News calls its fuel efficiency estimates “above-average.” And one of US News’ concluding thoughts about the Buick 2019 Encore? “The Encore is one of the best subcompact SUVs you can buy.”
And Edmunds gave it good marks for the Encore’s hushed cabin at highway speeds, the generous standard tech and safety features it has, and its maneuverable size. They ranked it #10 for their X-Small SUV category, ranking among the leading ten subcompact SUVs on the market today.
And we think it deserves a closer look at some of its specs and features, so let’s see what Buick is up to with its 2019 Encore subcompact SUV. With ratings like 8.1/10 from US News and World Report or a 4.6/5 from Kelley Blue Book, its features deserve your attention.
Buick’s tagline for this subcompact SUV is a fitting one: “Sized to fit the way your life moves.” We agree, because if you want to get into the SUV vehicle category but don’t want an enormous vehicle to cope with, then this 2019 Buick Encore is just the right size. You get the look and feel, along with the nimble driving, of an SUV without the typical bulk of an SUV.
The base model for the Encore starts at $23,200 MSRP and its standard features include: LED-accented taillamps, a 1.4L 4-cylinder Turbo Engine, an enhanced 4.2” Driver Information Center, and also the ease of the keyless open and start system. The Essence, its top model, starts at $29,300 and these features are standard: leather-appointed seats, rear cross traffic alert, heated driver and front-passenger seats, and heated leather-wrapped steering wheel (what a great feature for winter!).
Conclusion
For those new to the SUV game, the Encore is definitely a great start and will give you a fresh take on driving. It’s nimble, affordable, and gives you a taste of luxury. It’s a good pick and we recommend a test drive to see what it’s all about.
But if you’re of the more fashionable taste and want into the luxury SUV game, then the 2019 Buick Envision is hands-down the best choice. You get some sleek new features, with its redefined fascia trim, you get an excellent powertrain, some great luxury features on the interior, and most of the bells and whistles without the higher price tag of its rivals.
We believe the 2019 Buick Envision has staying power. Though a new entry into the SUV market, having been introduced in 2016, “it marked a milestone for the American auto industry” says Car and Driver, in a recent review. They note that it “currently stands as [Buick’s] third-best selling model.” And one thing that summed up their review was the following: “Best of all, the added refinements come with a price reduction. Depending on the trim, buyers can save between $1400 and $2400 over previous models.” So you get a better, cleaner trim with more modern shaping, and it costs less than outdated styling on earlier models. That’s a win-win for you, the car buyer! And Car and Driver also made a bold claim about the 2019 Encore: “In fact, it just might be the vehicle that best embodies the Buick brand, completely without pretension or too many compromises.”
In Buick’s words, “Versatility has found its style”—the tagline Buick has rolled out with its newly updated Encore for 2019. And we agree. The 2019 Encore has style and it gives you a lot more, both under the hood and in the cabin, at a lower price point. You get luxury and affordability. That is a winning combo.
Pop over to Liberty Buick GMC to test drive either the Encore or the sleek new Envision. We have experts ready to help.
Once you have found the car you want—you’ve run your credit, signed the paperwork, and climbed into the car to drive it off the lot. But as you’re leaving, you start worrying if you can afford what you just bought. You run the numbers in your head and a bit of panic shoots through you: “what if I have stretched my finances too far? What if I should have bought that car, not this one?” But, here’s the thing, you don’t have to fear the car-buying process. Making a few smart budgeting moves can make all the difference.

According to a 2017 article in Business Insider, Warren Buffett—you know, the guy who is worth somewhere around 84.4 billion dollars—always buys his vehicles at a reduced rate. Actually, what he does is he finds one that has had some minor damage (hail, fender-bender, scrapes and dents, but never anything too serious), purchases it for a fraction of the true cost then has it repaired. He then drives said car until the wheels fall off or his daughter is too embarrassed to ride with him, whichever comes first.
So why does a man who could buy every vehicle in America choose to hunt for bargains when he car shops? Because it’s worth it in the end. Within the sea of vehicles out there, and the fluctuating prices of those vehicles, major deals can be found. It just takes a little time and effort.
Buffet’s Key Ideas
- Buy what you can afford. Think about wealth accumulation, not accumulating things and goods. Spending less money, overall, on things and sticking with the essentials in life—this is what Buffet would do. He’s owned the same house since 1958, and he’s never moved from it, despite being one of the world’s top billionaires.
- Eat cheaply. Warren Buffet’s breakfast consists of a morning trip to McDonald’s and he keeps his purchases below $5/day for breakfast. Maybe that choice isn’t good for his health, but his idea is good for his budget: you don’t need to splurge on food and you can be economical about the choices you’re making.
The True Cost of a Car
Though it’s true the value of a new car drops the moment it is driven off the lot, as long as you aren’t breaking the bank to buy it, it could still be worth the price, and the drop in price, just so long as you have done the research and you know you can afford the (true) cost of the vehicle.
Here are a few hidden car costs that (non-savvy) buyers often fail to calculate:
- Financing Charges. Paying for a car in cash is usually your best option, but let’s be honest, how many people are actually able to do this—besides our friend, Warren Buffett? For those of us who do need to get a bit of financing, it’s important to note that throwing at least a little cash as a down payment can drastically reduce the monthly cost. It might also be a good idea to try and extend the loan and try and find the lowest interest rate. These are numbers and scenarios you will need to spend some time going through, and it could take time—which is why most car buyers don’t bother looking into the myriad was a car can be financed. Do your research and take your time, it will be worth it.
- Tax Credits. “Hybrids and electric cars seem great, but they cost so much!” We hear this all the time, and there is some truth to it—but there’s more to it than that. Yes, you will pay more initially for these types of vehicles, but you do save on gas and energy while you own the car. And that’s not all: you can also receive plenty of national, state, and local tax credits that can completely justify that hefty price tag. Buying these vehicles used can help drive the price down as well.
- Insurance Premiums. Car insurance, after the initial price of the car, is usually where you will spend the most money. The problem is companies charge different premiums depending on the type of car you buy. And it’s not just the make and model of car you get, these premiums are also based on the style—that is trim level, body style, etc. Usually, specialty vehicles (performance-oriented) have higher premiums, but it’s difficult to tell just how much you will be paying until you play around with the numbers and vehicle types. insure.com is a great website with a calculator that can help you crunch the numbers and find the best price for the car you want to purchase.
- Maintenance and Repair. Though cars these days are usually able to go longer than ever without having maintenance and repair, every car driver knows there will be a need to take the car in for work to be done, whether it’s minor or major repairs. Because of this, it’s important to spend time going over warranty options. Luckily, at Liberty, we will not only provide you with all your warranty options, we also have expert technicians who can do any maintenance and repair on site.

11th Annual Pfc. Adam Lee Marion Memorial Golf Tournament
On Thursday, April 25th, Liberty Buick GMC Truck of Charlotte is participating in the 11th Annual Pfc. Adam Lee Marion Memorial Golf Tournament. This golf tournament has been held eleven years in a row in honor of Private First Class Adam Lee Marion.
Private First Class Adam Lee Marion was killed in Iraq on April 28, 2008 while serving in the military. Adam was 26 years old when a rocket attack outside of Sadr City, Iraq claimed his life. He was deployed as part of a North Carolina National Guard unit tasked with performing route-clearance missions.
Family friends of the Marion’s, John Lawson and Ralph Holt, organized the golf benefit in Adam Marion’s name and had the idea to put the proceeds towards supporting the Children’s Center. The original mission was to raise about $10,000 a year for the center; this amount has gone above and beyond their expectations, growing annually.
The golf tournament proceeds have always gone towards the Children’s Center of Northwest North Carolina. Adam actually volunteered and worked at the Children’s Center of Northwest North Carolina as a young adult, and he continued to volunteer at the center even after joining the National Guard.
Where does it take place?
The event will take place at the Cedarbrook Country Club in Elkin, North Carolina on Thursday, April 25.
Where do the proceeds go and/or what organizations do they benefit?
All proceeds from the 11th Annual Memorial Golf Tournament benefit the Children’s Center of Northwest North Carolina. The Children’s Center of Northwest North Carolina serves Alleghany, Ashe, Forsyth, Stokes, Surry, Wilkes, and Yadkin counties.
The Children’s Center serves children from various situations. Children are placed in the Children’s Center by the Department of Social Services when they no longer have a safe place to live; they are placed in the Department of Juvenile Justice when they have a difficult home situation that has lead to acting out or running away from home, or by parents, who can place their children for up to 10 days. The Children’s Center of Northwest North Carolina supports these children of every age and background, offering a wide range of programs that support the prevention, intervention, and treatment of child abuse. Since the center’s inception in 1998, it has served approximately 9,000 individuals.
The Children’s Center is mainly run through grants, which are restricted in their uses as capital expenses, meaning that the grants cannot go towards paying for a space to operate. Thus, the gold tournament goes towards the Children’s Center’s facilities, operations of facilities, loans, and additional expenses.
In fact, in 2013 the golf tournament proceeds were used to purchase and demolish the Lighthouse Restaurant property across from the center’s administrative office, and construct offices for the center’s more than 50 staff members and classrooms. The classrooms are used for both educational programs for children as well as families. The funds from the golf tournament also enabled the center to purchase and renovate what is now the Pfc. Adam L. Marion Children’s Resource Center at 205 Leila Lane in Dobson.
As of 2017, proceeds from the Adam Lee Marion Golf Tournament have aided in paying loans, provided new roofing and flooring, and funded the main office and parenting areas across the center’s five facilities. The tournament has raised over $500,000 since it’s inception in 2009.
How can I get involved?
The community is encouraged to come out and enjoy a day of golf, fundraising, and beautiful weather. It takes a number of volunteers to put together this event and to keep the day running smoothly. We recommend contacting any of the golf committee members below to get involved:
Ralph Holt: (336) 325-9559
Todd Dockery: (336) 244-8909
John Lawson: (336) 428-8637
Dale White: (336) 466-8984
Todd Hiatt (336) 355-8886
Brian McPeak: (336) 401-5509
Registration for golfers participating in the event begins at 7:00am at the Cedarbrook Country Club. In the past, there have averaged around 250 players total at the Cedarbrook Country Club for the event. In fact, the tournament fills up each and every year, and there is a running wait list of teams and individuals wanting to play and contribute to both honoring Adam and contributing to the children’s center. Typically the event breaks into two flights of golfers, half teeing off at 8:00am, and the other half teeing off at 1:00pm.
The day is clearly about more than playing or winning a round of golf; it is about honoring the memory of Pfc. Adam Lee Marion by coming together as a community to support the Children’s Center of Northwest North Carolina.
This is why Scott McCorkle’s Liberty Buick GMC Trucks Dealership of Charlotte-Matthews is an eager participant of the annual golf tournament, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to take part in and spread the word about this wonderful event to our friends and family at the dealership.
