The 2017 GMC Acadia is a mid-size SUV ready to impress and perform at new levels. The sculpted curves and line work are just the beginning of new features added to the all-new Acadia.  

There are a striking amount of changes made to this year’s GMC Acadia. And all are done in way of added safety and comfort features by using new technologies. And there are a multitude of other slight alterations done to make the Acadia even more enjoyable to drive.

For instance, the 2017 Acadia has reconfigured front and rear-ends. The front has a chrome oval trim piece framing its prominent grille. The curved edges of the entire front-end are more sophisticated and modern than previous models. The back-end includes a minimal use of chrome trim except for the shiny running board. The lack of intricate design here adds to the modern feel and overall purpose of the Acadia itself: nothing is overdone, everything has its designated purpose.

GMC even took away some unneeded size to the Acadia. The 2017 model is 193.6-inches long. This is 7.2-inches shorter than last year’s outgoing model, and proof GMC is serious about making the Acadia exactly what you need. No added frills, no filler. Just the best driving midsize SUV on the road.

TOP FOUR NEW FEATURES TO THE 2017 GMC ACADIA

Though there are quite a few changes made to the 2017 GMC Acadia, these are four of the most impressive…

#1: NEW POWERTRAIN

The 2017 Acadia actually offers two new powertrain options. Coming standard for the first time with the base models is a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine with 194 horsepower and 190-lb-ft of torque. This surprisingly powerful engine also provides 21 miles-per-gallon in the city and 26 highway. But, if you need something just a little tougher, check out the new Acadia’s 3.6-liter, six-cylinder engine with 310 horsepower (that’s 29 more horsepower than last year’s model).

With this larger engine, you get as much as 18 miles-per-gallon city, and 25 highway, which is pretty good considering the mass of muscle found under the hood. And for seasoned Acadia drivers, you might notice more punch and a smoother ride with the six-cylinder engine, which was previously the only engine option for the Acadia. This change is due to the added horsepower and a few extra tweaks to make new engine better than ever.

#2: SURROUND-VIEW CAMERA SYSTEM

Surround Vision is something GMC incorporated to a few vehicles in 2015. This was a sort of test run to see how useful it is, and to see how well it performs. Not surprisingly, it was found beneficial, and any kinks present were worked out before incorporating Surround Vision into the 2017 Acadia lineup.

Essentially, the surround-view camera allows a perfect bird’s eye view of the scene around the vehicle. The camera is attached to a center-stack display, and provides a clear, live view. This high-tech safety feature will most likely be a hit, for any vehicle that has it in 2017, as it makes the job of driver so much more enjoyable. Just think, no more blind-spots! Finally, you can see everything that is happening in the back, sides, and front of your vehicle while you are driving.

#3: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL

The 2017 GMC Acadia’s adaptive cruise control (ACC), also known as active cruise control, autonomous cruise control, intelligent cruise control, or radar cruise control, is an intelligent mechanism that speeds up and slows down your vehicle on its own accord.

How does it work? The driver sets the top speed as one normally would using cruise control. Then he decides how many seconds he wishes to pace behind the car in front (usually, 2, 3, or 4 second options). Then, ACC does the rest.

A high-tech radar set in the center of the grille performs the task of locking on to the vehicle directly in front and staying with it until you cancel the cruise control. If the car ahead of you speeds up, so does yours. All the while staying the same pace behind. What if the vehicle in front of you brakes? No problem. ACC slows down right along with it, and it sounds an alert making you aware of the change taking place.

The nice thing about the Acadia’s adaptive cruise control is that it doesn’t do too much. Again, GMC chooses the minimalist approach, and for good reason. The best part of the Acadia is driving it. We don’t want a mechanism completely taking over our driving experience, but using a system such as ACC can actually make each journey easier and more enjoyable. We say bring it on.

A word to the wise: if it is your first time using GMC’s adaptive cruise control, it does take some getting used to. We are, after all, trained to do all the driving, and having a system such as ACC help out seems awkward at first. But, using it in high traffic areas will get you comfortable with it quickly. Start with the maximum distance between you and the vehicle ahead of you (around four seconds), and let the radar do the rest.

#4: LANE-KEEP ASSIST

Lane-keep assist is yet another feature added to the Acadia that makes driving easier. Like adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist does not fully take control over your vehicle; however, it does keep you safe by correcting an often occurring mistake: merging into another lane. Or worse, driving off the road.

So, how does it work? Lane-keep assist monitors the painted lines on the road and consistently lets you know when your Acadia deviates from between them. The strips of yellow, whether full or in sections, and the white line on the side of the road are the boundaries. Once the lane-keep assist software detects you are veering from these lines, a warning appears on your dash, an alert is sounded, and once you begin to turn the wheel, the alert stops.

Some versions of lane-keep assist actually help pull you back to between the painted lines. Just think of all those times you have bent down to turn on the radio and reached behind your seat to grab something and your car began to venture out of line. Well, no more. Not with the 2017 GMC Acadia.

Christmas is our favorite holiday here at Liberty Buick GMC. It’s the time for friends and family, the season of giving, and the Liberty Buick GMC annual Christmas party! Our Christmas party is something special; it’s the party that brings the whole Liberty family together. We celebrate Christmas, we celebrate friends, and we celebrate our joys and accomplishments of the year.

Christmas is also the time of year that we hear from many of our customers.  We want you all to know how much we value those long-time relationships.  We’ve known many of you through three family generations and have been blessed to watch your children grow up and go off to school.

This year has been full of excitement, new cars on our lot, and many challenges that have helped us grow. We have also lost a couple of people that have been dear to us over the years.  We will miss Rocky Camilo and Billy Joe Estes.  They will forever be a part of the fabric of our dealership.

The Annual Charlotte International Auto Show is a time when all dealers are present under one roof to present their very best car models. This year, the 2017 Auto Show hosted more than 300 vehicle models from over 30 different manufactures. To kick off the event, a preview party was held on Wednesday, November 1. All dealers who had vehicles in the show were invited to come to the preview party to rub elbows fellow dealers, view cars, and support their favorite charities. Liberty Buick GMC proudly participated in and contributed to the 25^th Annual Charlotte International Auto Show.

During the preview party, numerous events took place while guests mingled and enjoyed viewing the top vehicles from each manufacturer. One of these exciting events included an appearance by Thomas Davis, football linebacker for the Carolina Panthers, who made an appearance, signed autographs, and participated in a question and answer session.

The event also included an award for Dealer of The Year. Scott McCorkle, the owner of Liberty Buick GMC, was a nominee. At the end of the evening, he was announced as the runner up for the overall Dealer of the Year award. Gerry Woods from Salisbury, NC was announced as the winner for the Dealer of the Year award.

The McCorkle family takes pride in supporting the CMPD, but especially enjoy contributing to the CMPD K-9 unit. The CMPD current has 14 dogs that help protect our community. These dogs usually spend 7 years on the team before retiring and spending time at home with their K-9 officer.  These dogs also hold a special place in the hearts of the McCorkle family. At the preview party, Scott and Kim McCorkle presented a donation to the K-9 Officer Pete Capotosta and his dog, Leonidas.

Overall, the 2017 Charlotte International Preview Show was a success. Liberty Buick GMC proudly showcased many vehicles at the 2017 Auto Show. Under one roof, car dealers from all over spent the evening together viewing hundreds of vehicles and various manufacturers on display. The weather is starting to get a little cooler and colder days are coming, Liberty Buick GMC wants to be sure you are prepared for frigid mornings and snow days. Getting ready for winter means getting your vehicle should be geared up for the cold. Everything from new tires to snow packages and heated seats. Whether you are looking for a brand new vehicle to help you make it through the cold or just looking to prep your current ride, Liberty Buick GMC is here to help. Here is your winter servicing checklist:

1. Tire Prep

Before winter rolls in, it is a good idea to get your tires checked. If anything needs to be fixed, repaired, or replaced this is the time of year to get everything checked out and ready for the winter weather. Maintaining your tires to keep them in quality shape can be challenging with wheel alignment and balance, tire pressure, tire rotation, and wear and tear. Tires require a lot of work and care to keep them it top condition.

• Wheel Alignment and Balance

To help prolong your tire’s lifespan it is essential to keep your wheels aligned. When wheels become unaligned it can cause uneven wear to your tire and even cause bearing, shock, and suspension problems. If your vehicle is pulling to one side or your tires are showing uneven wear, then it is a good idea to have your tires realigned.

• Tire Pressure

Tire pressure is constantly changing as the weather changes. For every temperature change of 10 degrees Fahrenheit, tire pressure changes about 1 psi. In the summer the pressure is higher and in the winter pressure is lower. To ensure your tires are at the correct PSI, it is a good idea to check the pressure at least once a month.

• Tire Rotation

To extend the life of your tires and improve performance it is always important to rotate your tires. Tire rotations are done to help make wear and tear even on all tires. Each tire works differently causing them to wear at a different pace. To help prevent uneven wear and increase the lifespan of your tires, tires should be rotated every 7,500 miles.

2. Vehicle Inspection

Car inspections are always a good idea to be sure you abide by the law, ensure your safety, and compile with registration regulations in North Carolina. For your safety, it is important that all the bolts and screws on your vehicle are secure. 3. Oil Change

Before winter rolls in, it is important to check your oil. The first step is checking your oil to make sure the correct amount is in your vehicle for proper use. An oil leak or low oil can cause your vehicle to run differently and often causes issues in your car. It is also important to have your oil changed every so often, depending on your vehicle and the type of oil your vehicle requires. Most cars require an oil change every 7,500 to 10,000 miles to adapt to the normal service schedule but some older vehicles may need oil changes as often as every 3,000 miles. On the other hand, newer vehicles may allow you to go for 15,000 miles before needing an oil change. Liberty Buick GMC has Certified Technicians that preform oil changes. Buick’s newer vehicles have a special Oil Life System that senses your car’s speed, engine temperature, and monitors operating conditions to help determine the best time for an oil change.

4. Check the Antifreeze

Antifreeze is one of the top vehicle concerns during the winter months. To prepare for winter it is a good idea to check the antifreeze level in your vehicle. To properly keep your vehicle from freezing, your engine cooling system should be filled with 50/50 mixture of antifreeze and distilled water. To keep your vehicle operating properly and most effectively it is recommended that you follow the manufacturer’s guide for changing the antifreeze. 5. Properly Functioning Windshield Wipers

Windshield wipers are super important for your safety. Rain, hail, snow, any type of precipitation makes the visibility outside change. When you are driving down the highway it can be difficult to see clearly, so you want to have the best possible view of the road. Properly functioning windshield wipers can make driving in messy weather a little more manageable. Your windshield wiper blades need to be changed if they are:

• Streaking- the surface will be unclear and the wipers will leave long streaks behind. This often occurs when the blades are dry or dirty
• Skipping- you will hear a loud, dry skipping sound that indicates that the rubber of the blade is wrapped
• Worn down-the edge of the rubber will start to round and even peel
• Split- when the wiper blades are exposed to, too much sun the rubber of the blade will split or crack
• Bent- damage can cause your wiper blades to become bent. Thing like car washes and scraping ice off of your vehicle can cause damage

6. Brake Check

Finally, the brakes. Yep, that one is a no brainer. Brakes are an important part of your safety no matter the season. Winter time means slippery and ice roads so it is important that your brakes are prepared. So how do your breaks actually work?

1. When your foot hits the brake, fluid signals the brakes of all four wheels to stop
2. The force of your foot is multiplied
3. The brake system exerts up to 1,000 pounds of hydraulic pressure to each brake

When it comes to your brakes there are two parts the brake rotors and brake pads. When you schedule an appointment with one of our highly trained certified technicians they will inspect both parts of the brakes to ensure your safety.

• Inspection of the brake hoses for brittleness or cracking
• Inspection of brake lining and pads for wear or contamination by brake fluid or grease
• Inspection of wheel bearings and grease seals
• Adjust parking brake as needed
• Check brake fluid level at every oil change. Replace fluid according to the Owner’s Manual recommendations
• Calipers and wheel cylinders should be checked every brake inspection and serviced or replaced as required
• Inspect the brake lines for rust or punctures
