Most people finance, a smaller percentage lease, and even fewer pay cash; but this is not indicative of which is best, as each option has its own set of advantages and disadvantages. The monthly payments for leasing are often less than financing. Additionally, there are highly beneficial tax cuts when the leased vehicle is used primarily for business purposes. When leasing, you do not have to worry about making a down payment—assuming your credit is good enough.
Negative aspects to leasing include a requirement of more than simply having basic insurance: often dealerships will require a specific amount or type of insurance, resulting in a higher monthly fee. Also, although a leased vehicle is covered with warranty, it is not covered for scratches and dents, which will have to be paid out of pocket.
Financing: The most commonly used method of purchase for Americans, this option allows you to use the bank’s money, freeing up your disposable income and the time it can take to save enough money to pay cash. Credit scores determine the type of financing available (the higher the score, the lower the interest rate), and there are usually nice warranty packages out there for financers. The downside to financing? Your monthly payments are usually a little higher than when leasing, and there is usually a hefty down payment required.

What’s setting this year’s Canyon AT4X apart from previous models and other trucks on the market? The answer is hard to capture in a sentence because the Canyon has implemented so many new design features. We’ll highlight a few of the best features in this article.
A Build Made For Off-Roading
The Canyon is designed around adventure, making it prepared to take on the toughest off-roading trails. GM introduced the Multimatic™ DSSV dampers, powered by AT4X feature dynamic spool valves for extended off-road applications. The Canyon also comes with an amazing off-roading chassis package. It has a 2” factory lift and a 3.5” widened track. Both give the GMC Canyon increased clearance and expanded ability off-road.

The Canyon protects its underside by utilizing a large front heavy-duty skid plating that employs a larger transfer case shield, and it also includes rocker protectors. All of the features listed above are only as effective as the underlying engine of the vehicle. In the Canyon, you’ll find a high-torque, off-road optimized 2.7L engine that provides 310 horsepower. The truck also offers a best-in-class torque of 430 lb-ft.
An engine of that size and power offers greater towing ability at maximum weights. The Canyon AT4X is capable of towing up to 7,700 lbs, a considerable load, especially when you consider that it falls into a “mid-size” truck classification.

Engine oil is the lifeblood of your vehicle, which is why keeping a watchful eye on your car’s oil level and pressure is so important, regardless of the season. But as seasons change, and the weather along with them, the oil in your car does as well. Hot oil has a thin viscosity and becomes thicker as the colder weather moves in. Car oil is meant to handle these temperature changes, but some liquid can get lost or sometimes burnt off along the way.
It’s a good policy to check your oil level (popping the hood and pulling the dipstick) once a month or so. And, as you drive, check your oil pressure gauge to make sure it is resting at or around the 40 or 50 mark. Note: if you notice the gauge drops while your car idles (especially after you have been running the car for a while) it’s most likely because the oil has become thin due to heat—this is normal! However, if the gauge remains low as you drive, it’s worth having a technician look at it.
What to Have Serviced this Fall

Fluids
There are all kinds of fluids running through your car and it is our technician’s job to make sure they are all running at the correct level. Some heat, some cool, others lubricate, and some even help you apply the brakes. If any of these are too low, problems can ensue: overheating engine, frozen lines, and faulty brakes to name a few. And with the changing temps, these fluids will be affected to a certain degree.
Tire Tread and Tire Pressure
Nobody wants a blown tire, and keeping an eye on the pressure and tread will do wonders to keep it from happening. First, we check the tread—if there is a depth reading of 2/32” or less we recommend a new tire. Next, we check the pressure. It’s so easy for tire pressure to drop, especially when the temperature drops, so if you happen to notice your tires looking a bit flat, chances are they need some air.
Battery Check
Over the summer, heat and vibration can cause your battery to lose some of its fluids and wriggle free from its casing. This is dangerous, as the battery is the heart of your car. Luckily it only takes a quick minute to figure out whether or not your battery is operating at full capacity. We can also let you know if the battery present is the right voltage for your particular make and model.
Coolant Flush
Even though the weather outside is becoming cooler, the temperature inside your engine gets hot every time you drive. Over the summer it gets even hotter so as fall approaches, we like to flush the coolant, replacing it with fresh, new liquid ready to keep your engine cool all fall and winter no matter how far or long your drive.
Heat Check
Chances are you have not turned on the heat to your car in a while, and it’s not uncommon for heating elements to go out due to changing temperatures. It’s an easy check: simply turn on the heat and see what happens. Even if the heat seems to work fine, we will still give it a look to make sure everything is in working order and ready to withstand being used on a regular basis. Even 50 degrees can feel quite cold when driving at fast speeds with no heat, so make sure it can keep you nice and toasty all fall and winter.

That move from intense heat to pleasant cool makes us want to get outside and enjoy nature. But before skirting off to the mountains or beach or even to the local park, make sure your car is ready to enjoy the season as well.
GMC has long been a leader in safety innovation and part of being a leader is continuing to push the standard. It’s known that GMC has safety measures like rearview camera mirrors, advanced sensors, and adaptive cruise control, and while those features are necessary when improving the safety of a vehicle, they’ve become somewhat standard in most modern models. This leaves a lot of room for improvement and innovation.

Its implementation would result in more control, visibility, and overall a safer driving experience for GMC owners. And while that promise is exciting it may be necessary to discuss just what the A-pillar is and the problems it has historically posed for drivers.
Chances are if you’re interested in the safety potential of reimagining the A-pillar, you likely want a vehicle that’s built for safety. Understanding the A-Pillar
The A-pillar is the two structure bars that are upright and frame your windshield. Essentially the two pieces that vertically connect the windshield to the car’s roof and dash. While that piece of engineering is absolutely vital when it comes to making sure your windshield is secure, it’s been known to obscure a driver’s view and create additional blind spots.
The severity of the blind spot can vary from car to car, but oftentimes it increases the risk of not seeing a pedestrian, biker, or small car because they can often disappear behind these larger modern A-pillars.
The blindspot the A-pillar creates is not often discussed, leaving drivers unaware of the importance of checking it, and many car manufacturers uninterested in solving the problem. The issue of the blind spot is further exacerbated when you realize that A-pillars have grown in recent years due to their ability to improve the structural safety of the car.
That dynamic poses an interesting question — “How do you eliminate the risk A-pillars create while also maintaining a safe and structurally sound vehicle?” GMC’s recently filed patent seems to be the first answer to that question.
The Solution
GMC’s solution is to keep the A-Pillar, but eliminate the blindspot, so they let drivers have their cake and eat it too. They’re planning on doing this by making the pillar see-through, according to recently filed patents. Recent advancements in available materials seem to have made it possible to maintain structural integrity while eliminating visual barriers.
While other car models and manufacturers have attempted to solve the problem through the placement of cameras and other indicators, nobody until this point had looked to reimagine the A-pillar as a whole.
Here are some of the details of the innovative design taken from GMC’s patent which describe it as a — “novel fiber reinforced composite A-pillar that includes one or more designed openings impregnated with a transparent resin or composite…”
If you find yourself worried about potential overexposure to the sun because of this increase in transparency, GMC already has you covered. The patent goes on to explain that the — “transparent material is selected from materials having a transmission coefficient of at least 50 percent for light in the infrared (IR), visible, ultraviolet (UV) wavelengths and a refractive index between 1 and 2 for visible light, such as polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) or an optically transparent polycarbonate.”
As it stands now, no model has been tapped to play host to this innovation and it’s likely that GMC will not engage in speculation. Still, it does exemplify why GMC continues to lead car manufacturers in safety innovation and further displays the brand’s ability to think outside the box in order to bring the best driving experience possible to every member of the GMC family.
Other Ways GMC Invests In Safety
If one thing is clear, it’s that GMC is invested in the safety of its models. And while the A-pillar patent is a good example, it isn’t the only one. One of GMC’s most exciting new safety measures is its Pro Safety Package.
GMC’s Pro Safety Package is a suite of features included across most of its modern models. Those features are designed to make driving easier, reduce the chances of accidents, and maintain safety for those in and around your vehicle. Forward Collision Alert: Through the utilization of cameras and sensors, GMC cars will notify you when you’re at risk of an accident. Using lights and sounds, you’ll be sure to know when an accident is about to occur, giving you a chance to brake or move away from any potential risk.
Front Pedestrian Braking: Tied to GMC’s automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking is designed to stop your vehicle from hitting or injuring pedestrians that may be at risk.
Automatic Emergency Braking: As mentioned above, automatic emergency braking will apply brakes in potentially dangerous situations. Typically employed after the collision alert, automatic emergency braking prevents any collisions by braking for you or allowing you to brake harder than you would in a vehicle without the feature.
Lane Assist With Departure Warning: Lane assist monitors your vehicle and where it’s at on the road, keeping you in your lane and away from danger. Departure warnings let you know when your vehicle has drifted and lane assist will give you a light steering wheel movement to keep you on course.
Following Distance Indicator: Following distance indicators let you know when you’re following a vehicle too closely, and likely putting yourself in a situation in which you couldn’t stop in time. Which helps ensure you’ll always be driving in a situation that allows for maximum control.
Intellibeam: Intellibeam systems allow your vehicle to switch between high beams and regular lights depending on what vehicles are around you. This helps improve your field of vision at night while also being considerate of other drivers.
