Tips to Help You Sell Your Used Car

How to Sell Your Used Car
Selling a used car on your own is all about knowing who is looking for what you have. With a little research and effort, your vehicle’s new owner shouldn’t be difficult to find. At Liberty Buick GMC, we have been successfully selling new and used vehicles for years and we have learned a few important tips along the way.
Our first piece of advice is to solidify exactly what it is you have: does it need a little work here and there or is it in prime shape? Our second piece of advice: always take an honest look and be honest with your potential customers.
According to Autoweek.com, a used car—on average—takes roughly 33 days to sell. This does not mean it will take that long for you to sell yours, as selling is dependent on a few things. For one, it’s important to know what models are best sellers at the moment. Classic vehicles tend to sell according to the season (Wranglers and others with tops that come down do well in the spring and fall) and/economy. High gas prices can slow the sales of older, gas-guzzling, cars so if you are selling a classic be sure to keep these things in mind. For newer used vehicles, there are those that consistently make the list of the fastest, most-sold used vehicles:• Buick Encore• GMC Yukon• Dodge Grand Caravan• Buick Enclave• Dodge Challenger • Dodge Charger• GMC Sierra• GMC Terrain• Dodge Journey• Dodge RAMAnd it’s for good reason we see these models on the list year after year. They consistently perform at high levels and they maintain a modern look and feel, which keeps them popular. No matter what the vehicle is you are hoping to sell, even if it isn’t in high demand, there are specific things you can do to help your chances of getting a great price for your car. Here are four tips for a successful sale:1. The first thing to consider is the method of sale: trade-in your car at a dealership, sell it yourself, or get an instant cash offer. The value of your vehicle will vary, depending on the type of sale you want. All three have their own set of benefits as well.
Trading in your car is fast and convenient since you have no costs for listing or selling.
You also don’t have to worry about dealing with texts and emails and phone calls from potential buyers. The downside is that you won’t get as much cash as you would by selling privately, but your used car will work as a nice down payment, or a complete trade, for a different vehicle.    2. Gathering the necessary documentation prior to attempting to sell is a good idea. What documents do you need?
  • Vehicle Title: have this handy if you have the car paid incomplete; if you are still making payments, alert the financial institution you are using that you plan to sell the vehicle—you will have to get the title transferred once the car is sold.
  • Service Records: culling all your service records may take a little time but this is a great way to prove you have kept up with oil changes, brake changes, etc.
  • Vehicle History: obtaining the historical report on your car is a good way to show any potential buyer the detailed history of your car, as well as intimate you are an honest seller. This report is not free, but it’s well worth the cost.
3. Preparing your car for selling is important and can range from major repairs to a mild cleanup. Bringing it to Liberty Buick GMC is a great way to have a professional give it a once over in order to find out what your car needs. In the case there is a major issue—transmission is slipping, oil leak, etc.—and you don’t want to fork out the cash to get it fixed, make sure you include this information when selling. You will most likely need to reduce the price as well, but hopefully your car is not in need of a major overhaul (and, chances are that if your car is in need of major repairs, you are already aware of this). 4. The actual condition of your car is what determines its cash value. The best, quickest, way to find the value is to visit a website like Kelly Blue Book (kbb.com). Here you can enter your car’s specifications (or the vehicle history report number if you have it) to get a good idea of what kind of money it can sell for, whether it’s a private party, a trade-in, or instant cash. You can also peruse selling sites like the Facebook Marketplace to see at what price similar vehicles to yours are selling.Bring your used car into Liberty Buick GMC today and let our trained technicians give you a detailed assessment. We might even share a few more key tips for selling your used car!

How to Protect Your Car in Charlotte: GMC Anti-Theft Features and CMPD Tips

Charlotte Car Thefts Are Down 31%. Here's How to Stay on the Right Side of That Number According to Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD), there were 2,163 vehicle thefts in Charlotte during the first six months of 2026. That works out to approximately: 83 vehicles stolen every week. Almost 12 vehicles every day. And that's actually good news compared with last year: CMPD says vehicle theft was down 31% during the first half of 2026. In the same six-month period of 2025, there were 3,127 vehicle thefts. Good habits are the first line of defense, but newer GMC vehicles also offer technology designed to make stealing the vehicle more difficult and help owners respond if a theft occurs. CMPD recommends: Always lock your doors and completely roll up your windows. Never leave the vehicle running unattended, even briefly. Take your keys with you, including valet keys, and never hide a spare key in or underneath the vehicle. Remove valuables from the vehicle entirely. CMPD specifically mentions phones, purses, briefcases, backpacks, cash and even loose change. When shopping, put packages in the trunk rather than leaving them visible inside the passenger compartment. Do not leave registration or insurance cards in the vehicle. Park in a well-lit area, preferably somewhere with surveillance. At home, park in the driveway rather than on the street when possible. Consider an alarm or other theft-deterrent device. CMPD specifically recommends a steering-wheel lock as an additional theft deterrent. They say locks may sometimes be available free from CMPD division offices, depending on supply. Even common sense and good law enforcement advice can’t prevent every incident, but it pays to know the facts. In addition to good habits did you know that GMC vehicles come with many anti-theft and security features built in?  Moreover, GM offers OnStar plans that fit your lifestyle and your budget. At Liberty Buick GMC, our inventory offers a range of available anti-theft and security features. Some come standard and are ready to drive off the lot, unless, of course, you’re stealing them. Anti-theft & Security Features Defined: Theft-Deterrent System (Alarm) The car's built-in alarm. If someone opens a door, hood, or trunk without the key fob, or breaks in, the horn honks and the lights flash to scare them off. It arms itself when you lock the vehicle and shuts off when you unlock it with your fob. Engine Immobilizer A digital handshake between your key fob and the engine. If the car doesn't recognize your fob's unique code, the engine won't start, even if a thief gets inside or tries to hot-wire it. OnStar Basics GM's entry-level connected-services package, usually included on new vehicles for a set trial period. It covers core safety and security services, like crash notification and stolen vehicle help. Some extras (like remote app commands or Wi-Fi) may need a paid upgrade after the trial. Automatic Crash Response If the car detects a serious crash (like an airbag deploying), it automatically contacts an OnStar advisor. The advisor tries to reach you, and if you don't answer or need help, they send emergency responders to your GPS location. Remote Vehicle Commands (Lock/Unlock, Start, Locate) Using the myGMC app on your phone, you can lock or unlock the doors, start the engine (handy for warming up or cooling down), or find the car, all from wherever you are. Locate can also flash the lights or honk the horn to help you spot it in a parking lot. Vehicle Location The vehicle's GPS tracking. It lets you (in the app) or OnStar (if you report a theft) see where the vehicle currently is, so you're never guessing after a theft or a forgotten parking spot. Stolen Vehicle Assistance If your vehicle is stolen, you report it to police, then call OnStar. Advisors work with law enforcement to use the vehicle's GPS to track it down and help get it recovered. Stolen Vehicle Slowdown Once police are involved and confirm it's safe to proceed, OnStar can gradually reduce the stolen vehicle's engine power so it slows to a stop. It doesn't shut the engine off suddenly, which avoids putting the thief or others in danger, and it ends a chase before it starts. Remote Ignition Block If the stolen vehicle is turned off, OnStar can send a signal that prevents it from being restarted. The thief is left with a car that won't go anywhere until police arrive. HD Surround Vision / Security Cameras A set of exterior cameras stitched together into a bird's-eye view on your screen. It's mainly a parking and maneuvering aid, helping you see around the vehicle, but it also gives you better awareness of your surroundings. Actual "security camera" recording features vary by model, so confirm what your trim includes. Teen Driver Parental controls for the car. When a teen's key fob is registered, you can set speed alerts, cap the audio volume, and keep certain safety systems switched on. The car can also give you a "report card" of their driving habits, like hard braking or speeding. It can even mute the radio until seat belts are buckled. Super Cruise GM's hands-free driving assistance for compliant highways. It steers, accelerates, and brakes while you keep your eyes on the road. A driver-facing camera watches your attention and alerts you if you look away too long. It's a convenience and safety feature, not an anti-theft one. 2026 GMC Anti-Theft & Security Cheat Sheet Feature What it does Needs OnStar plan? What The APR? Understanding APR in Car Financing: What It Means and Why It Matters

What The APR!

What The APR? Understanding APR in Car Financing: What It Means and Why It Matters APR is one of the most common sources of confusion in auto financing. Many shoppers hear about a monthly payment first, while others see ads for low or even 0% APR and wonder whether those offers are real. APR deserves attention because it helps explain the cost of borrowing, and it can make a big difference in what a vehicle loan costs over time. WHAT IS APR? - APR stands for annual percentage rate. According to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, APR is a measure of the cost of borrowing money over a year. It can include the interest rate plus certain lender fees, which is why APR is often higher than the simple interest rate. In plain language, APR is meant to give consumers a more complete way to look at loan cost than interest rate alone. APR VERSUS INTEREST RATE The interest rate is the rate charged for borrowing money. APR is broader because it may include the interest rate and certain lender fees. That distinction matters when comparing loans. Two offers may look similar at first, but APR can help show which one may cost more on a yearly basis. That said, consumers should still review the full loan details, because APR is only one part of the picture. WHY SHOULD PEOPLE CARE? Consumers should care about APR because it helps them compare financing offers more accurately. The CFPB says APR reflects the yearly borrowing cost more completely than interest rate alone. But APR is not the only number that matters. The total amount financed, the length of the loan, any fees, the monthly payment, and the total repayment cost all affect how expensive the loan will be. This is especially important because a lower monthly payment does not necessarily mean a less expensive loan. The FTC warns that a longer loan term can make financing much more expensive overall, even if the payment feels easier to manage month to month. IS APR A GIMMICK? APR itself is not a gimmick. It is a standardized borrowing-cost disclosure designed to help consumers compare loans. What can feel confusing is the way promotional financing is advertised. Low or 0% APR promotions can be legitimate, but they may come with qualifications, restrictions, limited terms, eligible models, or tradeoffs. FTC guidance says shoppers should confirm the APR, the total loan cost, whether the vehicle is actually available, and what fees or upfront amounts still apply. So the right question is usually not “Is APR fake?” but “What exactly does this offer require, include, and exclude?” Specific offers, rates, terms, and eligibility should always be confirmed directly with the lender or dealership. WHAT CONSUMERS ARE ASKING Based on the Reddit discussions provided, consumers commonly ask whether typical new-car APRs are really as high as quoted, whether dealer financing should be replaced by outside financing, and whether 0% APR promotions are genuine. Common concerns and opinions include: People often mix up standard lender rates with special manufacturer or captive-finance promotions. Definition:  A captive finance company is a subsidiary set up by a major car manufacturer to provide financing directly to its dealership network and retail customers. Money is never truly free, even on a 0% or 0.9% APR deal. If the market interest rate is 6%, a lender needs to make 6% to cover their risks and overhead. When a captive lender gives you a 0.9% APR, the automaker pays its own finance division the 5.1% difference upfront out of its vehicle profit margins or marketing budgets. The automaker treats this loss as an advertising expense. They would rather lose $4,000 "buying down" your interest rate than let a $35,000 vehicle sit unsold on a dealership lot collecting dust. Some shoppers focus heavily on the monthly payment and not enough on total borrowing cost. Many are unsure whether dealer-arranged financing is competitive or whether a bank or credit union might offer a better deal. Some wonder whether 0% APR means there are no payments or no other costs, which is a misunderstanding. Others are skeptical that advertised APR offers are broadly available to all buyers and all vehicles. These are consumer opinions and questions, not financial facts. The official guidance supports the idea that comparison shopping matters and that promotional details should be checked carefully. WHAT TO COMPARE BEFORE FINANCING Before accepting an automobile loan, review: The APR The interest rate The total amount financed The loan term The monthly payment Any lender fees or upfront costs required The total amount you will repay over the life of the loan Whether the offer is promotional - If so, what restrictions or qualifications apply Whether a cash rebate or other incentive is available instead of promotional APR Whether outside financing from a bank or credit union offers a better overall deal Getting preapproved before Special Deals may also help you compare dealer financing with other options, according to the FTC. Still Confused About APR? Here are some real customer anecdotes and examples of APR Deals from staff members at Liberty Buick GMC. Question 1 — 0% APR vs. Cash Rebate: How should a buyer calculate which is better? Liberty Buick GMC Staff Member Answer: "There may be $8,000 in rebates they give up to get the 1.9% or 0% for 60 months. But if they're just taking the 60 months to pay it off in two or three years... they're giving up $8,000 in equity. The only time 0% makes sense is if they ride it out full-term. If they're gonna pay it off early, what's the point in taking 0%? It makes more sense to take the equity." "Somebody might want to jump on the 0% because 0% sounds good, but they just gotta weigh it out. If you'll probably pay it off in two or three years anyway, then take the rebate. Take the 5% or 6% — who cares, you're gonna pay it off anyway. That way, you're in a better equity position initially, on the depreciating asset side." Question 2 — Dealership "Wholesale" Buying Power: How can a dealer match or beat a customer's own bank rate? Liberty Buick GMC Staff Member Answer: "I had a woman come in here this morning. She had a pre-approval with Chase. It was a good rate, 5.9% for 72 months. I knew she had decent credit, so I knew I could get like 0.5 off of that. She ended up going with us and saving some money, and it worked out." "You can have a 750 Beacon score (an Equifax credit score based on the FICO scoring model), but the number doesn't always tell the whole story. Someone can have a 750 score but have a very shallow credit history. They may not have any loans or a history of paying off larger accounts, just a couple of Capital One cards with $500 balances. That's not the same as having a long, established credit history. You just gotta know what you're working with." "The lender actually pays us on average about 1% of the amount financed. On a $50,000 loan, they'll pay us $500. I'm not scared to tell a customer that. 'The bank pays me 1%. If we keep that in-house, I'll usually help you out a little.'" Question 3 — Extended Loan Terms: Why are 72–84 month loans risky? Liberty Buick GMC Staff Member Answer: "Even if the rate were the same for 84 months as it is for 60, because the term is longer, the way interest accrues, you'll pay more interest at the same rate... thousands of dollars more. A lot of buyers end up underwater, meaning negative equity, and they still owe more than the car's worth." "Once you get past three or four years, you're outside the factory bumper-to-bumper — the risk goes up for the next owner. More miles, more wear and tear — might need new tires, might be time for brakes." "I can get you 84 months here, but you might want to think about the 75-month term because the rate's almost 2% lower than what it would be at 84. I'm making the same thing, so why not help educate the customer? Because sometimes people just see the lower payment and go for it. It doesn't always make sense." FINAL TAKEAWAY APR is an important consumer-protection disclosure, not just a marketing phrase. It helps you understand borrowing costs, but it should never be viewed by itself. The smartest approach is to compare the complete financing package: APR amount financed loan term monthly payment fees total repayment cost Ask questions, read promotional details carefully, and confirm all specific terms directly with the lender or dealership before you si

Cabs-Bed Length

GMC Sierra 1500 Cab Configurations & Bed Lengths Explained

Crew Cab vs. Double Cab vs. Regular Cab: Which Sierra Is Right for You? Buying a new GMC Sierra 1500 is exciting, but it can also be confusing. Many shoppers spend hours comparing engines, towing capacity, trim levels, and technology packages before they realize they skipped one of the most important decisions of all. Which cab configuration and bed length is right for you? Believe it or not, most truck buyers choose their cab size and bed length before they ever decide on an engine or trim level. After all, you'll use the cab and cargo box every single day. Whether you're hauling kids to school, loading lumber, towing a boat, or carrying tools to a job site, the configuration you choose will have a bigger impact on your daily life than almost any other option. To make the decision easier, Liberty Buick GMC sales consultant Arte Elliott compares three actual GMC Sierra 1500 trucks from our inventory. Video: GMC Sierra 1500 Cab Configurations Explained Using Real Inventory at Liberty Buick GMC Which GMC Sierra 1500 Trims Are Available With Each Cab & Bed Configuration? One thing many truck shoppers don't realize is that not every GMC Sierra 1500 trim level is available with every cab and bed combination. As you move from work-focused models like the Pro to premium trims such as the Denali Ultimate, the available configurations become more specialized. The chart below provides a quick overview of which cab and bed combinations are generally available for each 2026 GMC Sierra 1500 trim level. Caption: 2026 GMC Sierra 1500 cab, bed and trim availability. Availability may vary by drivetrain, engine, equipment packages, fleet ordering, production schedules, and dealer inventory. Contact Liberty Buick GMC to confirm the availability of a specific configuration. Understanding the Chart You'll notice that the Pro trim offers the widest variety of configurations. It's designed for commercial customers, contractors, municipalities, and buyers who need flexibility. As you move up the lineup, GMC begins tailoring each trim toward a specific customer. SLE and Elevation models are available with either a Double Cab or Crew Cab, making them excellent choices for families and recreational users. SLT models focus on comfort and premium features and are offered exclusively as Crew Cab models. AT4 models are built for off-road adventures and are available as Crew Cab trucks with either a Short Bed or Standard Bed. AT4X is available exclusively as a Crew Cab Short Bed. Denali buyers can choose between a Crew Cab Short Bed or Crew Cab Standard Bed. Denali Ultimate is available only as a Crew Cab Short Bed. For most buyers, choosing the right cab and bed configuration is actually more important than selecting the trim level. Once you've decided how much passenger space and cargo capacity you need, narrowing down the trim becomes much easier. The Three GMC Sierra 1500 Configurations Explained the Liberty Buick GMC Video Crew Cab with Short Bed GMC Sierra 1500 SLT Bed Length  5 feet 8 inches This is by far the most popular Sierra 1500 configuration sold today. It combines four full-size doors, a spacious rear seat, and a 5-foot 8-inch cargo bed, making it an excellent truck for families, commuters, and anyone who wants the versatility of a pickup without giving up passenger comfort. Customer Favorite Features: Full-size rear seating Comfortable for adults Easy to park Excellent resale value Although it's the shortest bed available, it easily handles bicycles, mulch, furniture, coolers, luggage, lawn equipment, and most weekend DIY projects. Double Cab with Standard Bed GMC Sierra 1500 Pro / SLE Bed Length  6 feet 8 inches The Double Cab often surprises shoppers. Its rear seat isn't as large as the Crew Cab, but the truck gains nearly an extra foot of cargo space by using the 6-foot 8-inch Standard Bed. For many buyers, that's the perfect compromise. Customer Favorite Features Include: Longer cargo box Lower price than Crew Cab Four doors Plenty of room for children or occasional adult passengers The additional cargo space makes transporting ladders, lumber, kayaks, furniture, and landscaping supplies much easier. Regular Cab with Long Bed GMC Sierra 1500 Pro Bed Length  8 feet 2 inches If maximum hauling capability is your priority, this is the truck to own. Instead of adding a rear seat, GMC dedicates nearly the entire truck to cargo space. Customer Favorite Features Include: Lowest starting price Largest cargo box Excellent payload capability Easy to load construction materials An 8-foot bed allows many building materials, including sheets of plywood and drywall, to lie flat with the tailgate closed. Sierra Bed Length Comparison For reference, our sales person, Arte Elliott demonstrates how a A 7' 1" Basket Ball Player would fit in each truck bed laying down. He fits easily into the long bed, hangs over just a few inches in a standard bed, but would have a hard time laying down in a short bed. Frequently Asked Questions Which GMC Sierra cab is the most popular? The Crew Cab with the Short Bed is the most popular configuration because it offers full-size rear seating while remaining comfortable to drive every day. Is the Double Cab big enough for adults? Yes. Adults can comfortably ride in the rear seat for shorter trips, while children typically have plenty of room. Buyers who frequently carry adult passengers usually prefer the Crew Cab. Which Sierra has the longest bed? The Regular Cab Long Bed offers the largest cargo box with an inside bed length of 8 feet 2 inches. Can I get a Crew Cab with a Standard Bed? Yes. Several GMC Sierra 1500 trims, including the Pro, SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, and Denali, can be ordered with the Crew Cab Standard Bed configuration. Which Sierra is best for contractors? Many contractors choose the Regular Cab Long Bed because it maximizes cargo space and payload while keeping the truck simple, durable, and affordable. Visit Liberty Buick GMC and Compare Them Side by Side Reading specifications is helpful, but there's no substitute for seeing these trucks in person.
